Will Artificial rain create any environmental problems ? Share your views.

Artificial rain in India has it been ever tried? I never heard of artificial rain happening in Mumbai.

Generally 'Artificial rain' is performed over a set of cloudy area which looks like it will rain but it doesn't. The method of performing this feat is done by 'cloud seeding'. They throw a substance(preferably silver chloride) at the clouds which reacts and condenses the water vapor which induces rain fall known as the artificial rain.

This concept is useful for farmers who have been striving hard to earn from the harvest. This method is a boon for them,but we cannot always depend on this method as it may cause severe effect and side effects of the chemical sprayed may cause certain type of cancers(skin) or release of free radicals in the air which might effect us.

There is a mixed response as to whether artificial rain does wonders or not. The research is still on.

Is the rain shown in movies are not generated using the method above?

The rains shown in the movies and in serials are nothing but water sprayed using hoses from tankers.

Mathi, you have raised a good question here. Swetha, thanks for the detailed information on the concept of Artificial rain. Like you have mentioned, it is not a very reliable method and considering that chemicals are used to create rainfall, it is also not safe either. The chemicals used may be in negligible amounts that will not cause greater extent of harm, but even small amounts of chemicals can be severely detrimental to the microscopic ecological systems; in a greater extent which form the environment that we live in. Therefore there is a danger of severe natural imbalance due to artifical rains. As to the extinction of fragile plant and animal species, it will be a costly affair.
