Get Bottles of Whisky for your Vote!

January 25, 2012   by: S. Chowdhury    Points :2   Category :ExposeKnowledge
If anyone happens to be an Alcoholic person and a voter of the poll-bound states of India, particularly Uttar Pradesh and Punjab then one is supposed to have a party time as candidates cutting across party lines are distributing Liquor at will to buy voters.

Sadly this is the sordid state of affairs. The Election Commission has already seized about 3,60,000 litres of alcohol from all the states and particularly from Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, as per the Election Commissioner.

Still a television channel carried out an undercover operation today in Punjab and was able to get 'Six Bottles of Premium Whiskey' for one vote in favour of a Congress Candidate! So just imagine one family of votes can provide an alcoholic enough stock for the year! Thus it is party time for them.

Our Democracy has stooped to such low levels now where Political Parties go to any level to win Elections. Where does 'We the People' stand in all of these. Share your views.

Really it is very shame for our ruling party. Educated people will judge it,and have to vote for a genuine party.

GOD IS ONE. HE/SHE IS BEYOND OUR THOUGHTS.

There is no genuine party left in this country Mathi. All eggs are rotten in the basket. You just choose one rotten one or the other that may be more or less rotten but rotten nevertheless. Unless the electoral reforms and strict punishment for corruption is put in place I don't see the scenario improving one bit as Politicians doesn't give a hoot about how we the people feel about them or their party.

It is a shame that we harp about being one of the largest democracies in the world when the ground realities are so different .Free and fair elections are almost like a distant dream in India .Freebies in form of alchohol ,consumer goods like TV,laptops and money are doled out by all political parties to buy votes especially in the rural and poverty stricken areas .Parties spend massive crores of rupees on election campaigns which can be put to much better use for devolopment .
All this also makes it impossible for educated and motivated people ,who dont have political affiliations to stand for elections .Thus we see mostly candidates who hardly have any credentials but have financial and family backing ,win elections and become our "leaders "!!

I agree S.Chowdhury ji, our politicians and politics seem to be getting murkier than ever. If we review, the number of scams are increasing every year, crime rate is increasing, inflation is going up and the situation seems hopeless. Even if educated people join politics, they will also have to give in to the corruption and ill-will. Maybe we need a strong regime that brings a massive change. However, that cannot seem to be a permanent solution. Eventually, hopefully, the nation will get sick of the dirty politics and find a way out..

You have hit the nail on the head really gaurisood. Elections sadly has become a time to get freebies rather than exercising one's voting rights with responsibility. The other day the Election Commissioner was stating in an interview that though the EC has made a cap on Election spending but it is flouted 10 or even 100 times and it is here where black money is poured in. He also said that people have become so cunning these days that they stage bogus parties and marriages to disguise their illegal spending for winning voters. New and innovative ways are implemented every now and then. People are so desperate to win elections.

People are so desperate because victory in an Election is the ticket to amassing limitless illegal wealth and it is probably the best possible investment. I mean if a person spends one crore on an election, he intends to make an earning of at least 50 to 100 crores from his tenure in power. That is the mantra and every party knows it and don't have any intention to oppose honesty and continues to fool people.

It is time to ask ourselves, how long will we stand and watch this nuisance!

At least we can make sure that our vote doesn't go to such criminals and secondly raise our voice in protest through social media or other groups. Only we the people can change our country that is slipping really (if you see the current growth and development scenario) by not being mute spectators and taken for a ride. People have great power, see the Arab Spring. It is time to get out of our sleep.

Taken For Granted
The literal meaning of the term ''TAKEN FOR GRANTED'' is ''underestimating the value of someone or something'', even though it has many connotations and applicability based on its usage and deduction.

I chose this term as because this term is of real importance to everybody - concerning the daily lives of everybody knowingly or unknowingly.

Everybody has both been an offender and been on the receiving end as well to be blatantly honest and I don''t feel there is any person usually who can claim otherwise.

When we are the offenders we take our parents, siblings, friends, spouse, close relatives or other people near and dear to us for granted and don''t pay attention to their opinions or will over a particular issue or many issues (if it goes on like that unchallenged). We may do it to somebody we don''t know even and it can be the vendor at the street corner or somebody not of that importance, whom many of us don''t hold in high esteem, until someone of them shocks us with the level of their wisdom!

When we are taken for granted, then it could be your boss in the office, who can seriously believe that you''d work for the pittance he is paying under constraint of options or under duress, it could be your parents who takes call on your career or important decisions in life like marriage for example without even consulting you, it can be something similar with your friends or other relatives. It can be even on the online world where some people might think they have a right to make you act in any which way they desire just because they are paying you!

Admit it or oppose it, the term is all around us! So what is your story or opinion in this matter, if you''d like to share certainly with all of us?

And finally, I won''t take any views for granted!
