Mathi G,

I am a very positive and easy going guy and I take life as it comes to me. Moreover, I also think that planned things most often than not does not work out according to plans. So, we should face life as it comes to us. I do not know about others but for myself it holds true. But having said so, I think some people do think about and plan for their funeral which has it's own advantages like everything is planned and settled before and it saves unnecessary harassment of the family members in the future. What is you view about the topic? Please let me know about the same.

Many people think of death when they get to their old age and start thinking of death and funeral. On the other hand there are people who live life till the last day of their existence on this planet and make it count. I would like to be inspired and follow the latter category of people. So for me what is paramount is how I am going to make my life count more and that goal is always infinite for anybody. So where is the time to plan the Funeral!

Nice opinions are given. Thanks.

My opinion is that, Yes I agree to do this. As per "Garuda Puran" we have to follow all those things as an individual. That parts are called "Dhan dharm " if time permits, Ill explain about all those things here.

thanks both of you.

This is a very interesting, intelligent and debatable question.

I would say I agree that one should plan one’s funeral in his/her life time. All our life we work hard and save for the future and future generations. We try to provide everything to our family and friends and find our joy with them. We save money for the future and we are the ones who say “who has seen the future”. Our lives are like soap bubbles which can burst anytime without prior notice. Funeral/Cremation is the last ritual performed for any person. We plan birthdays, marriages, baby showers, other get together events then why not a funeral? It is a family responsibility to organize the funeral and in I guess ~98% of the families it is so. One must not forget like any other event funeral also requires money. How ironical even in death we need money to get a proper burial/cremation. Unfortunately it is the truth.

It would be a great idea to save money for the funeral day so that one does not become a burden on relatives or friends in the end. I know one person who saved money for her funeral. She was a pleasing personality belonging to a good upper middle class family and had very cordial relations. She passed away in her 80s and on the day of her funeral when family members opened her cupboard they found a small purse full of money which said “funeral fund”. People were so emotional and felt so proud on that woman. She is still remembered as a woman who never took even a single penny from anyone, not even in her death.

Also not to forget there are so many people who have nobody, ill and old people living in old age homes, whom no one wants. Don’t they have a right to get a proper funeral? Government provides them with a funeral with the money they collect from taxes with/without caring for the religious beliefs of the dead person.

All our lives, since our birth we are taught to be independent, self -reliable and responsible. We are encouraged to study harder so that we can get a good job and in turn can support ourselves and our family. Death is inevitable and is the last step of our earthly lives. I wonder why do we ignore that and pretend as if we will never reach that step. I guess it is because we do not want to think about the end and that is why mostly we are left unprepared at the last step. It does not matter how independent and self-reliant we were in our lives but in our death we became dependent on others and thus failed what we lived for. Therefore, I am a strong believer that one should plan or at least save money for ones funeral to prevent unnecessary harassment for the family members.

Dear Mathi, I would very much like to know about the “Garuna Puran” and “Dhan Dharam”. Please take few minutes of your precious time and help us increase our knowledge. I would be thankful.
