Don't be afraid of eggs thinking that they are cholesterol rich food. They are actually super health food and can be prepared in many interesting ways. Around the world, eggs are used as breakfast food. An egg is considered as a storehouse of vital nutrients and hence it should be added in your meal as a part of your healthy diet.

Eggs are rich in protein. An egg contains about 6 grams of high quality protein and 9 essential amino acids. Proteins are the building blocks of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. The important functions of protein include building and repairing tissues, producing enzymes and hormones and other body chemicals.

Our body is capable of storing fat and carbohydrates but unfortunately it can't store protein. Since there is no reserved protein to draw from when is necessary, it should be added periodically through our diet. For this purpose, the eggs are the best choices.

An important nutrient which is present abundantly in egg white is riboflavin or Vitamin B2. Riboflavin is a water soluble vitamin. It is linked to the important metabolic processes in the body. Riboflavin also finds its importance in normal cell function, growth and production of energy.

Some people avoid having egg yolks considering they are rich in fat content. But egg yolk is also a very healthy food if consumed in moderate quantities. The yolk contains about 1.33 grams of cholesterol per 100 grams. Egg yolk is rich in Vitamin A and B Vitamins, calcium, phosphorous, lecithin and iron.

The iron present in the egg yolk can be easily digested and assimilated by the body. If you eat just one egg everyday, you need not worry about increase in cholesterol and blood at levels. But if you wish to have more eggs in a day, resort to the whites of other eggs in addition to one whole egg.

Eggs have carotenoid content especially lutein and zeaxanthin which may prevent macular degeneration. Hence eggs are good for eyes and the above mentioned nutrients are more readily available to the body from eggs than any other sources. A study also shows that those who consume at least one egg a day lower the risk of cataracts. This is also due to the presence of the carotenoid content.

Eggs are rich in choline. About 300 micrograms of choline is present in one egg yolk. Choline helps to regulate brain, nervous system and cardiovascular system. A research shows that eating eggs regularly may prevent blood clots, stroke and heart attacks. Eggs also contain naturally occurring Vitamin D.

Eggs also have the property to reduce the risk of breast cancer. Women who consume at least 6 eggs a week lower their risk of breast cancer by 44%. Eggs have high sulphur content and many types of vitamins and minerals. This promotes healthy hair and nails.
