Carrots are rich sources of beta carotene. They are good for eyes. The anti aging properties of the carrots are attributed to the presence of huge amounts of beta carotene. Vitamin A and antioxidants present in the carrots protect the skin from sun damage. In addition to beta carotene, carrots contain alpha carotene and lutein.

Good for vision:

Carrots are rich sources of beta carotene. In our liver, the beta carotene is converted into Vitamin A and again the converted Vitamin A from the liver gets transformed to rhodopsin in the retina. Rhodopsin is a purple pigment which is necessary for night vision. Beta carotene is also associated with decreased macular degeneration and senile cataracts. It is shown that people who consume vegetables containing more amount of beta carotene are 40% less vulnerable to macular degeneration.

Reduces cancer risk:

Carrots contain falcarinol and falcarindiol. The former is a natural pesticide produced by carrots to protect their roots from fungal infections. These falcarinol and falcarindiol are associated with lowering risks of cancers like lung, breast and colon cancer.

Anti-aging:

The anti aging properties of the carrots are attributed to the presence of huge amounts of beta carotene. Beta carotene acts as an antioxidant and prevents the cell damage which is caused by the regular metabolism of the body. Thus the aging of cells is slowed.

Glowing skin:

Vitamin A and antioxidants present in the carrots protect the skin from sun damage. Sufficient intake of Vitamin A is very necessary to prevent the dryness of skin, hair and nails. Vitamin A also helps in preventing premature wrinkling, acne, pigmentation, blemishes etc.

Prevents heart diseases:

In addition to beta carotene, carrots contain alpha carotene and lutein. These are collectively called as carotenoids. Regular consumption of carotenoids rich food items helps to prevent heart diseases. Due to presence of soluble fibres in the carrots, cholesterol levels are also controlled by their regular consumption.

Cleanses the body and prevents stroke:

Carrots contain a high amount of Vitamin A. Vitamin A helps the liver to wash away the toxins from the body. The fibres play an important role in cleaning the colon and quickening waste movement. A study also shows that people who eat 6 or more carrots in a week have low risks of stroke than those who eat less or doesn't eat any carrots at all.
