If you are thirsty, go get some watermelon pieces and eat. Watermelon is a very good thirst quencher. Watermelon contains about 92% of water with no cholesterol and no fat. Watermelon also contains antioxidants in high quantities. Hence watermelon is good for cardiovascular diseases, colon cancer and even diabetes.

Watermelon is rich in potassium. Potassium has its significance in controlling blood pressure and regulating heart beat. It should be noted that potassium rich diets are very healthy as they keep in check salt content and thus prevent blood sugar level from rising. Potassium is also found to reduce the risk of formation of kidney stones and age related bone loss problems. The recommended daily intake of potassium for an adult is 4,700 milligrams.

Watermelon is a rich source of vitamins like Vitamin A, C and B6. Vitamin A plays an important role in maintaining good eyesight and is also an antioxidant. Vitamin C helps to strengthen immunity, heal wounds, prevent cell damage and maintain healthy gum and teeth. Vitamin B6 is needed for brain function and it also aids in converting protein into energy.

Amino acids like citrulline and arginine are present in watermelon. These amino acids find roles in maintaining arteries, blood circulation and overall cardiovascular function.

Watermelon is also a good source of lycopene. Lycopene helps to reduce different types of cancers like prostate, breast, endometrial, lung and colon cancer.
