Tips to Maintain Good Eyesight even at Old Age

Foods you eat play an important role in maintaining good eye sight. The most common eye problems which are related to age are macular degeneration and cataracts. Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E are found to prevent the above mentioned conditions.

Maintain a healthy weight by eating well-balanced diet. This prevents obesity related diseases like type 2 diabetes. You know, diabetes play a major role in adult blindness. Some good foods which help in maintaining good eyesight are given below:

? Green, leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, and collards
? Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish
? Eggs, nuts, beans, and other non-meat protein sources
? Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices

Quit Smoking:

Smoking not only leads to cancer, it also leads to permanent vision loss. Some of the eye conditions associated with smoking are cataracts, optic nerve damage, and macular degeneration. So quit smoking.

Wear Sunglasses:

If your eyes are exposed too much to the Sun's ultraviolet rays, there is a high possibility of getting cataracts and macular degeneration. This can be prevented by sunglasses. But you should be careful in choosing the sunglasses. The sunglasses which you choose should be capable of blocking 99% to 100% of UVA and UVB rays.

Don't stare at your computer screen too long:

Staring at your computer screen for a long time causes eyestrain, blurry vision, difficult in focussing at a distance, dry eyes, headaches, back, neck and shoulder pain. The following steps can be taken to protect your vision while using computers.

* Wear glasses or contact lenses suitable for computer use.

* Your computer should be positioned in such a way so that your eyes are in contact with the top of the monitor. This leads to viewing the computer screen in a lower angle.

* Avoid glare on your computer screen from windows and lights. You can also use anti-glare screen.

* Blink more to ward off dry eyes.

* Don't look continuously for more than 20 minutes at your computer screen. For every 20 minutes, give a break of 20 seconds and focus on something which is 20 feet away. Every 2 hours, take a 15 minute break.

Good useful tips ! We can never neglect our health at the cost of our lifestyle, eyes are very precious to us and we have to eat healthy and be cautious not to abuse or over use our eyes ..

We have to give proper care to our eyes. Eating raw carrot daily will increase your eye site. Wash your hand with clean water when you come back to your home from out side. Do not read books in dim light. It is harmful to our eyes. Avoid reading books and journal from moving vehicles. If possible,wear sunglasses when you go out.
