2 Public Health Reasons, believed to be Responsible for Water Floods in Srinagar

November 17, 2014  by: Dr. Simran Kaur  Points: 12   Category: Environment  Earning $0.60   Views: 1130

You must have watched Srinagar flood news, on television and have received online news updates on social networking websites, regarding Srinagar water floods; but do you know, why water floods have come over there?

As, it is said that everything happens for some reason; same thing applies to Srinagar floods; there were two reasons behind them.

What were these 2 reasons, because of which floods came over there?

These 2 reasons, were public health laws; which needed to be implemented, but broken over there. Yes, the public health rules, which were needed to be implemented; were broken over there. At some places in Srinagar, they were implemented and at some places, they were not implemented. The places, where they were implemented in past; there they, were broken by joint venture of; both people residing there and Government ruling over there.

And, these 2 public health rules (laws), which were broken in Srinagar; whose return gift was Srinagar water floods; were -

1. Water drainage areas, or gutters were blocked-

Water drainage areas or gutters, where extra rain water pouring at residential places, needed to be drained; were blocked, by people themselves; so that show of their homes and shops does not get lessened.
. But, they do not know by closing the gutters; they are not giving water to way out of town; through these gutters. Through gutters, extra water gets drained; but as they were by blocked them; so there, was no drainage channel, to drain extra water.
. As, water did not get any drainage way; it then, take shape of flood and as there was, continues heavy run, so water did not get dried and take shape of Srinagar water flood.

2. Srinagar rivers, were shortened artificially, by human activities-

Yes rivers of Srinagar, were shortened by human activities; to widen land area. Shortening of rivers, lead to decrease in volume capacity of each river.
. So when, extra water came during heavy rains, days before Srinagar water floods; Srinagar Rivers due to their decreased volume capacities, were not able to hold extra water; which they earlier, were capable of, when they were having increased volume capacities.
. Extra water, which these rivers, with decreased volume capacities, were not able to hold; further contributed floods, by taking shape of, water floods over there.

No doubt, above 2 public health rules; people better had not broken over there, to save them from floods; but when they were doing so, it was duty of Government of Srinagar; to stop them from doing so. But, Government did nothing; in fact, they themselves contributed, in breakage of these 2 public health rules; by giving a blind eye to breakage of these 2 rules.

If people had not broken these 2 public health rules , over there and if Government had stopped them then ; then these water floods, would not had come; they would had been prevented.
