This article refers to the various health hazards of using mobile phones and some practical tips on precautions to minimize them.

Cellular phones have become an inseparable part of our lives owing to the ease of communication that it provides. Along with the advent of wireless technologies, there emerged some invisible health hazards that wreaks havoc on us. This situation raises a big question, Technology - Is it a boon or bane for mankind?

The cell phones uses the radio frequency signals for making and receiving calls. Recent studies have revealed that the EMF (Electro Magnetic Frequency) radiations that comes from the cell phones, microwaves, computers, cordless phones and more contributes to the health problems such as head aches, blood pressure, fatigue, insomnia, cancer, brain and eye tumors and so on. Children are at high risk because their nervous systems and skulls are still not completely formed. And their skulls seems to be more thin through which the radiations can penetrate easily.Scientists and Doctors have agreed that we are on the verge of alarming health crisis.

. The world experiences a million times more Electro Magnetic Frequency radiations than before.
. There is a about 30% increase for autism in children.
. 20 to 30% increase in brain cancer, worldwide.

Another imposing hazard is that of using cell phones while driving. There has been an enormous increase in the number of road accidents pertaining to the use of cell phones amidst driving. Many governments are contemplating making law to ban the usage of cell phones inside the vehicles. But that seems to be unrealistic and difficult to monitor.

Even though the effects seems to be cumulative, it is our responsibility to take necessary precautions for ensuring a better living for us and our family. Here are some practical tips that would help to minimize the health hazards to an extent:

. Refrain from using a cell phone while driving as much as possible. Try to avoid answering the call if you are on road, especially in the middle of too much traffic.

. While travelling, always keep the phone within your reach, so that you can reach it easily without fumbling when situation arises.

. Always keep the calls brief and short. Minimize the use of cell phones by making only essential calls. Rely on land lines. Send text messages instead of making a call.

. Use hands free kit and keep the phone away from your body as much as possible. This helps in minimizing the exposure to radiations. Using speaker is also ideal.

. Avoid using wired headsets, as they act as antenna and attracts additional EMF radiations to the ear canal.

. While talking over the cell, ensure that you are holding it without blocking the antenna. Usually holding your cell phone at the bottom would help.

. Avoid the use of cell phones in elevators and other metal spaces because, the signal strength would be less and the device will have to work harder in making a connection. More over, the metal surfaces acts as Faraday cage and would trap the radiations and reflect them to the people inside.

. While making a call, wait for the call to get connected before placing the phone next to ear. More radiations would be emitted at the connection time.

. Keep the cell phone out of your pockets and off the belts. Studies shows that radiations may contribute to heart diseases and infertility problems.

. While choosing a cell phone, select the one with low SAR (Specific Absorption Rate). SAR denotes the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the body. A lower SAR value means less absorption. SAR would be listed in the instruction manuals.

. There are some EMF Guard Devices avaiable which would prevent the body from the effects of radiations to a particular extent. Choose a scientifically validated EMF guard device is a good option.

Thanks for providing these tips.I was preparing the tips to share. But seeing this all I have to say is described here.I wish to add one more thing.Do you know why the message alert of BSNL came in while we are out of range or switched off?

It is due to a claim made by a customer. He claimed that he got cancer due to use of cellphone and his service provider BSNL has to pay for it!To counter his arguments BSNL told to switch off the mobile if you don't need it always and you will be alerted about the calls at this time through an SMS!

Here we may think about the radiation that may come out of cell phones which was admitted by the service providers itself. So be ware.
