Tips to lower Blood Pressure

The article describes the tips which can be followed for lowering the blood pressure of our body.

         

Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by the blood on the arterial walls as it passes through them. Higher blood pressure or hypertension occurs when the blood exerts a higher pressure than normal. Blood pressure is measured in mmHg, by a sphygmomanometer and a value of over 140/90 is referred to as high blood pressure. However, any value which is between 120/80 and 139/89 needs to be looked upon as a warning sign.

High blood pressure damages blood vessels and may lead to other complications like stroke, kidney failures and dizziness. Advanced stages may need medical treatment in the form of diuretics, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers.

There are some simple tips which can be followed to bring down the blood pressure in case it is a bit on the high side.

1. Take Amla and other citrus fruits: The Indian gooseberry (amla) is an effective food remedy for high blood pressure due to its high Vitamin C content that dilates the blood vessels. A tablespoonful each of fresh amla juice taken with honey or milk daily would help in bringing down the blood pressure.

2. Have less salt intake: Lessen your salt intake. Salt, which is rich in sodium content, increases the body fluids and thereby, the blood pressure of the body. So, decrease the intake of salt.

3. Consume Cocoa foods: Consume foods which have about 70% cocoa like dark chocolate. A study reveals that hot cocoa reduces blood pressure due to the flavanol content of cocoa beans.

4. Eat Potassium, calcium and fibre-rich foods: Eat foods like avocadoes, asparagus, citrus fruits, sweet potatoes, bananas, peas and tomatoes which has lots of potassium to combat the negative effects of sodium in the body. Low fat dairy products are rich in calcium while fibre-rich foods include fresh legumes and whole wheat.

5. Do yoga: Lie on the right side in a yogic posture. You would feel your blood pressure dipping down. Doing 'Surya Namaskar' is also recommended

6. Have Onions, Garlic and Beet root: Drinking a glass of beetroot juice daily or taking other nitrate capsules help in lowering the blood pressure. Onions and fresh garlic, consumed moderately, also helps to bring down the blood pressure to a considerable extent.

7. Reduce caffeine: These foods tend to raise the blood pressure. Hence, it is wise to take de-caffeinated coffee, preferably water-processed to lower the high blood pressure.

8 Drink water: You need to drink 8 glasses of water daily for your body to be properly hydrated. This will help to lower the blood pressure quickly.

9. Do Physical Exercises: A regular physical activity makes your heart stronger, which in turn can pump more blood with less effort, as result the blood pressure gets lowered.

10. Quit smoking and alcohol: The nicotine is tobacco may constrict the blood vessels, hence, contributing to a further rise in Blood pressure. Also, the blood pressure increases with alcohol intake in many people.

And lastly, keep a check on your BMI. It should be in the range of 18.5-24.9. Any value greater than this would mean that you are overweight; this increases the chances of a high Blood pressure.

High blood pressure or hypertension is one of the most fatal medical conditions in the world. Many of the people were already conscious about their health. I am also facing a high blood pressure before but I already get rid of it. Your article could contribute to many of high who wanted to lower our blood pressure level. Because there are things to consider like what you have written here. It is very educating to know all about it and thanks a lot.
