Tips to clean stainless steel

Stainless steel vessels and equipment are commonly used in every household. The article gives some tips on cleaning stainless steel utensils and sinks.


Stainless steel vessels and equipment are commonly used in every household. With time, the vessels get tarnished with exposure to air. There will also be with brown streaks and marks, which might not look good and even lead to unhealthy cooking. Hence, it is inevitable to clean the vessels once in a while. Below are certain tips to clean the stainless steel vessels and sinks.

1. Tamarind

Soak Tamarind in warm water, take the juice, apply 2-3 teaspoonfuls of it on the stained area,let it sit for an about 30 minutes to 1 hour, and then wash the vessel. The stains will disappear. If not, repeat on the next day for best results.

2. Rock salt

Powder the rock salt and rub the powder on the stains. You can see them vanish gradually.

3. Soap

To remove burned-on food, fill the pan with warm, soapy water to cover the burnt area and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can apply liquid soap on the area and keep it. Then just rub the marks with the tips of your fingers.

4. Vinegar

Moisten cloth with undiluted white vinegar and wipe the area for cleaning the stains. This is also convenient for cleaning large vessels and stainless steel sinks.

5. Mineral oil/baby oil

Apply mineral oil (also called baby oil with a cloth and dry it with a soft cloth to remove any greasiness and keep the surface sparkling.

6. Baking soda

Immerse the vessel in a solution of baking soda for about half an hour and you can easily rub off the marks. The vessel will also get added shine.

Washing vessels using mineral oil,baking soda and vinegar are new informations for me.I would like to add one more to your list which is nothing but ashes.It can be used to clean hard stains on vessels.

Nice information to clean obstinate grease from utensils. I would like to add one more tip, filling the vessel with hot water with some salt and some soda bicarb, let it sit for 10 minutes and then scrub clean. This helps in easy removal of greases. Adding some lemon juice also further speeds up the process and gives a shine to it.
