Inside Job: A Film that Reminds Rights and Responsibilities

October 06, 2011  by: Paulose  Points: 12   Category: Movies    Views: 446

The film I watched a couple of days back called my attention to the present need of this country. "Inside Job" released in 2010 provides a comprehensive analysis of the global financial issues and how America is entangled in it.

The film "Inside job" was screened in our parish theater to celebrate 6th Annual Respect For Life Month. It was attended by a lot of parishioners. The film was followed by an open discussion of the film as it relates to Christian social teaching.

Released in 2010 in the USA, the film Inside Job emphasizes the importance of "Rights and Responsibilities for a common good in a community. It invites us to scrutinise into the global financial crisis of 2008 which cost over 20 trillion dollars. It provides a comprehensive analysis into the crisis that led millions of people lose their jobs and homes.

The film portrayed the worst types of people of whom worst are the academic economists who see no problem in having one foot in Washington and the other one in their narrow-minded ideologies. They have their mouths in the corporate trough as highly paid advisers and apologists for Wall Street firms. One of those economists explains his sudden decision to leave government service when things hotted up by saying he had to revise a textbook.

Community and common good should be the ultimate values of economists. The film exposes a clear example of the betrayal of intellectual responsibility and disinterestedness that 80 years ago the French thinker Julien Benda famously ridiculed.

The film explains how this caused the worst recession in global economy since the Great Depression and finally resulted in a global financial collapse. The film traces the rise of a rogue industry which has intruded into politics and corrupted it. This has corrupted not only politics but also regulations and academia. This corruption procession has been well brought out through exhaustive research and extensive interviews with various financial insiders, journalists, politicians and academics. Scenes located in the USA, England, Iceland, France, and in some Asian countries depict the deplorable condition of global economy.

One who is baffled at the causes of global financial situation may see this film "Inside Job" and clearly understand the factors that lead to such consequences.
