9/11 Has Not Opened Our Eyes Yet

November 10, 2011  by: Paulose  Points: 15   Category: Social    Views: 470

World is not yet healed of the wounds of 9/11 violence. But that brutal attack has not yet opened our eyes. The world is going more violent day by day. Nevertheless, we are not ready for reconciliation, religious tolerance and cultural coexistence.

The date nine eleven has a very great significance in history. It was on this day that the hijacked planes crashed into New York's World Trade Center in 2001. But we are not aware of the other significances that day has. It is connected with violence in many other ways which should open our eyes for a better living.

Is it numerology?

I am not sure if this date has any significance with numerology. But our attention can be diverted to the irony of some historic events that occurred on this same date. History has recorded many wars and destructions that took place on this fateful day.

A Lesson from 9/11 events

Many of the 9/11 events recorded in history point out the diverse tussles between faith and reason, cooperation and conquest, and between coexistence and conflict. They remind again and again that the significant message given by 9/11 is "universal brotherhood leading to a harmonious life". It was on this day that Swami Vivekananda, a sage of India, delivered his famous 'brotherhood speech' at the World Parliament of Religions at Chicago in 1893, addressing the people of the Unites States, "Sisters and Brothers of America." It was about this day that Louis Fischer mentioned in his famous book on the biography of Gandhi, the promoter of non-violence, with a title 'September 11, 1906'.

It was on this day that Gandhi introduced his non-violent weapon 'Satyagraha' at a public meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa. Gandhi himself has mentioned about this weapon which he got by reading the 'Sermon on the mount' of Jesus Christ. It was on this day that the WTC was attached warning the whole world to avoid violence and accept peace. It was on this day again that Russia tested its most dangerous and conventional weapon of war, called the Father of all bombs. This is still going on.

Universal Brotherhood

World has become a small globule with fastest communication and conveyance. Information technology has developed so much that in no time the world can be pulverized by anyone from any corner. The speech of Swami Vivekanada at Chicago was a timely call at the dawn of a century and a declaration of universal brotherhood. It was a warning that sectarianism, bigotry and fanaticism are outdated phenomena of the emerging world.

My Humble Request

This is my humble request to make you just reflect on the odd combination of these events and turn to constructive ways of untangling the web of complications. It is high time to remove all the triggers of divisions and misunderstandings. The moment has come to think of the universal brotherhood.
