A lot has been written, said and spoken about corruption. People get ecstatic when it comes to talking about the issue. A lot of promises are made. Newer ways of handling corruption are proposed. The unity amongst the masses suddenly looks immensely positive. Everywhere there talks of what punishment should be awarded to the corrupt. The world suddenly starts to look more positive.

However everything results in a nine day's wonder. Once the high tide and the heat of the atmosphere die down, it is back to square one and the vicious chain starts once again.
Let us consider an example of a person who dreams of his son becoming a doctor. However, the expenses and the initial investment of this profession are too huge. There is the study material, the coaching classes, the course fees to pay for. If the student has to live in a hostel away from home, then the hostel expenses, the mess, the communication, ... the list of requirements keep on increasing. To add to this list is the demon called donation.

These days giving donations to schools and colleges has become a routine. The amounts are huge and mindboggling. This is the extra amount of money the parents have to part with. Yet the amount is paid to be able for the kids to take up the courses. However, this is where this vicious chain starts.

Talking about this profession, it is very natural for the doctor to gather more money to foot the bills of his son. Then how and from where could he get that amount from? Of course, the answer is his patients. The tendency to prepare healthy bills starts to set in. The more money he could amass, the easier it will be for his son's future.
The patients of such a doctor can be anyone from a clerk in a government office to a small time grocer. To foot such bills, a clerk is likely to ask for bribes while the grocer may increase the rates of the items by a rupee or two. These people also think that they also have to keep themselves prepared for any emergency and eventuality.
Anyone can explain a lot about such a vicious chain. This has to be stopped. We have to keep the sacrifice the plastic surgeon Dr. Dixit has done. Baba Amte, his son Dr. Prakash Amte are all real life examples to what extent a doctor can go to serve his patients.
Yes, agreed that the above mentioned names are not of common people and not all doctors can go that far. But whatever they could do in their capacity will always be remembered by their patients. It is a matter of job satisfaction after all, and money is not everything, every time.
