Awaiting the hundredth century, it is interesting to think of the past achievements of Sachin. The legendary 'milestones man' of Indian cricket, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, has crossed yet another milestone today by completing twenty years in international cricket, two glorious decades with unbeatable word records that very few cricketers have accomplished.

A historical beginning

It was on this day, 20 years ago on 15th November 1989, when he was still a schoolboy, Tendulkar got the selectors' nod to begin his international career in cricket by playing for the country in the Test match against Pakistan in Karachi. The selection was just on the basis of the enormous potential the little boy had shown while playing cricket at the school level. From that day the genius cricketer, baby faced but tough as nails, shot on to the international cricketing stage, cuddly and adorable, with a broadsword for a bat and earmarked for greatness, crowned with centuries and records.

A legend of records

Starting at the age of 16, Sachin is the only cricketer who has bagged most number of records in both test and one day international crickets. He has achieved some remarkable records which has been a dream for many other cricketers. He is the first player to cross 10,000 run mark in one day matches and the fastest to score 10,000 runs in test matches. Runs poured in at a hectic pace creating fresh records. He has scored the most number of centuries also in both forms of the game and also the most number of man of the match awards achieved by any cricketer. He has been rated the world's best batsman after Australian legend Sir Donald Bradman. Tendulkar has created an awe-inspiring Test record by scoring 12,773 runs in the whopping 159 test matches that he has played with an average of 54.58 and 17,178 runs in 436 matches with an average of 44.50. Having smashed a number of records in his awe-inspiring career, he became the first player in the history of cricket to cross the 17,000-run mark recently in one day cricket, a milestone in his 435th match and 66th tie against the world champions.

An invincible all-rounder

Fact-file on Sachin shows his invincible records as an all-rounder. He is a matchless fielder. As a right-arm slow bowler, he bagged 44 wickets in tests and 154 in one day matches. He has to his credit103 historical catches in tests and 132 in ODIs.

Overcoming hurdles and hardships

Neither injuries nor failures of the team could cow him down. Surpassing every hurdle that challenged his career he goes ahead with new records. Overcoming injuries, followed by surgeries and difficult periods, the maestro of cricket readied himself for bigger victories.

A disciplined cricketer

One of the most important features about Sachin Tendulkar which needs special highlight is his decent, calm and composed character in the field. He is a cricketer who has always proved to maintain on-field discipline which the essential quality of a player. You will hardly find him getting involved in any kind of controversy or dispute. He has always supported authorities and helped young and junior players to improve their spirit and game. He has been doing everything with humility and grace, respectful of the love and o the expectations of his people but always with his feet on the ground and his head firmly on his shoulders.

Still a hero of worship

Twenty years on, in the era of Twenty20 cricket, Sachin Tendulkar stepping into his third decade on the international stage, continues to stand tall, wowing audiences worldwide even in the supposed autumn of his career with masterpieces that only he can construct. For 20 years, Tendulkar has been entertaining and exhilarating millions and millions, thrilling and exciting and, though naturally, occasionally disappointing and dismaying.

Shining jewel of India

Tendulkar, the 'Shining jewel of India' as described by the great cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi, has been enriching cricket with his presence. He continues to be a prolific run-getter for India and is a successful ambassador for the sport. May heavens bless him with many more laurels!
