Other name of Basil (tulasi) is 'vrinda'.this auspicious plant is grown in every tradition Hindu house. It has several medicinal properties, right from its roots, leaves, branches; stem to inflorescence {seeds-Manjiri}.Tulasi is a part of life for Hindu people in villages. It has spiritual, medicinal, air freshener as well as aesthetic qualities. It has a tremendous power of air purification which is very important for cities which are suffering with pollution problems.

         

TULASI PLANT AND IT"S BEENEFITS

It has several medicinal properties, right from its roots, leaves, branches; stem to inflorescence {seeds-Manjiri}.Tulasi is a part of life for Hindu people in villages. It has spiritual, medicinal, air freshener as well as aesthetic qualities. It has a tremendous power of air purification which is very important for cities which are suffering with pollution problems.

Tulasi grows in all soil types.Althoug tulasi is available in many varieties its main two types which are most popular are the dark green tulasi which is also known as "Krishna or Shyam Tulasi" and another type is "Ram Tulasi"Its other varieties are Tukashmiya,Drudhriha,etc.The botanical name of tulasi plant is "the Mosquito Plant". In ayurveda tulasi is good for easy digestion, it kills worms, neutralizes phlegm, it removes unpleasant smells of decaying matters; it is also helpful as "anti-stress "action.

1] Regular intake of few tulasi leaves or decoction made of tulasi leaves relieves mental stresses.

2] Tulasi, due to its special kind of vapors, purifies atmosphere and keeps insects like mosquito responsible for malaria away.Tulasi aroma is even difficult for snakes to tolerate, and keeps them away from house.

3] Intake of diluted tulasi juice every morning empty stomach removes fatigue, promotes apetite.tulasi brings blood cholesterol levels to the normal. Daily intake will reduce acidity problems, reduces muscular pain, headaches, etc.

4] For fever due to cold can be cured with tulasi leaves juice with honey. Never warm honey and tulasi juice together, if you want to warm tulasi juice, warm it separately and then add honey to it.

5] A decoction of tulasi leaves, turmeric and black pepper gives relief in cold and mild fever.

6] Boil 5 Gms of dry tulasi leaves, 2gms of black pepper and 2 gm of ginger with water. To this mixture add sugar and milk, this is good for chest pain by muscle bound and mild fever.

7] Rubbing a little warm tulasi juice on child's gums before teething would help to reduce the problems of teething.

8] To strengthen the muscles and bones of the child, everyday 5-10 drops of tulasi leaf juice diluted with water will be beneficial.

9] Tulasi can be used as skin care agent also. Boil tulasi leaves with mustard oil, allow leaves to turn black, off the fire, strained oil can be cooled and used for many skin diseases .in the cases like pruritis,eczema,ringworm,scabies apply tulasi juice on affected part,tulasi decoction can be used for bathing to get relief from skin problems. ring tulasi leaves with leaves of lemon tree with curds make a paste of it and apply to the skin affected due to ringworm.

10] Regular consumption of tulasi leaves juice purifies blood which naturally enhances your beauty. It increases red blood cell counts hence good remedy for anemia, too.apply tulasi leaves thick paste prepared with water on your face this opens up the skin pores, as dirt gets easily flushed out your skin will be clear and glow.

11] Take 5gms of tulasi leaves and brahmi leaves each, strain the juice, have twice a day, it helps to improve memory.
12]In winter you can replace your either morning or evening tea with tulasi tea, make a pulp of 20-30 tulasi leaves, add cardamom seeds, powdered dry ginger, pepper roots add spoonful of sugar and boil it, have it as a hot tea, do not strain it, chew the remaining extract. This is very good in winters to keep coldgh, cough at bay, this also improves appetite.

IMPORTANT: Those suffering with piles should avoid tulasi with black pepper. Persons with 'hot' or 'heat 'body tendencies should avoid tulasi in any forms in summer season. Prior consultation with registered practitioner for respective body type is necessary which will keep you on safer side and you can get maximum benefit of this auspicious and miraculous plant.
