What is snoring?

Snoring is defined as the vibration of the respiratory structures and the resulting sound, because of the obstructed air movement during breathing, while sleeping. The soft tissues of the throat vibrate against our tongue or the back of our throat. In some cases the sound may be soft and not disturbing. But in many cases the sound becomes rather loud and unpleasant. It occurs when the air is inhaled. It is a sign that the airway is being blocked.

Stop snoring in just seven steps

Snoring can be treated and stopped in the initial stage. Though it is not seriously harmful, it can be a sign of sleep apnea, a sleep disorder. This can be a strain to the heart and the cardiovascular system.

Here are seven easy steps to help solve the snoring problem.

1) First step- sleep on your side

The first step of stopping snoring is to sleep on your side or stomach. Avoid sleeping on your back, since your snoring gets louder when you sleep on your back. Another helpful advice to avoid sleeping on the back is sewing a tennis ball into the back of your pajamas.

2) The second step is spraying your nose with nasal sprays like Nasalcrom

The second step is to spray into your nose with nasal sprays like Nasalcrom, before going to bed. This will clear the blocks of nasal passage and improve breathing even if you have allergies.

3) The third step is affixing a nasal strip on your nose

Third step is that if you feel that your nostrils get sucked in while you breath, affix a Breathe-right nasal strip over your nose before going to bed.

4) The fourth step is to avoid all kinds of alcohol

The forth important step is to avoid all kinds of alcohol and sleeping pills. Smoking also is to be avoided. It is better also to avoid some analgesic tablets which are served as sleeping pills. Drug addiction is another reason for snoring.

5) The fifth step is to increase the humidity of the bedroom.

The fifth step is to increase humidity of the bedroom. When the humidity is less the passage of air is blocked and it it causes sleep apnea.

6) The sixth step to lose weight

Though it takes a long time, the sixth step is to lose unnecessary weight. Obesity has a direct link with snoring and sleep apnea. Losing weight may help the snorers to reduce or curb snoring.

7) The seventh step is consulting a physician

The seventh step is to consult a physician if snoring persists severely in spite of all the prevention techniques. It is better to consult a physician specialized in sleep disorder and undergo surgery if necessary. Get rid of the snoring habit and ensure a good sleep.

Sleep apnea causes a dangerous increase in blood pressure and can result heart failure, depression and mental clouding and hence snoring should be stopped. Ensuring a peaceful sleep is essential for your health and for peaceful atmosphere in your family.

Good to know that I'm not included in the 20% mark. I snore very loud. But my wife stops complaining with it long time ago. One thing she's more afraid off is if it entails a more pressing health problem. We've already talk with our doctor and he said that the best way to stop snoring is by removing some fatty tissue in my pharynx. He said that the fat tissue obstruct my air passage thus requiring more action by my mouth to such air while sleeping. I agree with your tips but the best one is the last one, by proper consultation, you will know the best thing to do with it.
