We often seen this scenario on family movies wherein the scene of cat got stuck up a tree and cannot is not able to climb down. Be aware that sometimes the hero should be a professional arborist. An arborist is someone who is comfortable of climbing trees. But if none is available, here's how to do it.

But first, you should be able to know some safety precautions when climbing trees.
Do not climb on a dead tree. Dead limbs may break unexpectedly, and they are not safe. Survey the tree and surrounding area for hazards. Trees entwined with power lines are hazardous and should not be climbed. Keep an eye out for other animals in the tree. Although most animals will run when you get close, squirrels protecting their nests and raccoons living in the hollow of a tree may be dangerous.
If you have a ladder, always reach for the branches at their crotch. Maintain a three-point hold (for example, have both feet and one hand stable as you reach for another branch).

1. Don't panic. If the cat was able to climb up the tree, it is likely that it will be able to climb down the tree. The cat will not climb down if the commotion to coax it down scares it; often will descend on its own at night when no one is around.
If the cat is only a kitten, it should be rescued immediately. Kittens like to climb to the tops of trees but lack the weight or strength to remain in the tree for long periods of time. A strong breeze may dislodge and injure the kitten. Cats usually land on their feet, but kittens do not.

2. Try to entice the cat down. Place edible treats in low-hanging branches or at the base of the tree. The cat may climb down willingly for the treats.

3. Find the cat's owner. The presence of the owner and her reassuring voice may help calm the cat. Remind the owner that shouting will not help.

4. If the cat still refuses to climb down the tree, you may need to climb up. Be aware of your own personal safety and health - if you are afraid of heights or have shoulder pain, for example, you may not be the best person to attempt the rescue.

5. Before climbing, get the kitty treats, a pillowcase and a rope.

6. Obtain a ladder. Place the base of the ladder on level ground and lean it against the trunk of the tree (not the branch). If the ladder is an A-frame, ensure that it is stable.

7. While carrying the treat, pillowcase and rope, climb the tree.

8. When you are within reach of the cat, offer it a treat. Speak gently and reassuringly - you do not want to frighten the cat. Usually, the cat will come to you willingly.

9. When the cat is close to you, scoop it into the pillowcase. Be gentle, but know that the cat will not like this. Hold the opening closed and lie it with the rope. Slowly lower it to the owner below; instruct her to open the bundle indoors.

10. Descend the ladder.

Cats love to climb Christmas trees, so make sure the tree cannot tip over easily. Either firmly anchor the base of the tree or secure the top of the tree to the ceiling, a piece of furniture, or window treatment with a strong string, wire or fishing line.
There are also many ways to dissuade the cat from getting near the tree. You could put aluminum foil at the base of the tree, install motion detectors that give off noise when activated, place mats that give a mild electric shock at the base of the tree, or spray your cat with a water bottle when it gets too close.
