Antioxidants are guardians provided to us by our Mother Nature. It is the nature's way of fighting off potentially dangerous molecules in our body. Antioxidants can be obtained through fruits and vegetables.


Antioxidants are natural army sent into our body to fight diseases. Obviously, fruits and vegetables provide a great wealth of nutrients that contain antioxidants. They can also be obtained through dietary supplements. Delightful fruits and vegetables not only taste great but are also excellent health boosters. Though our body has in itself the natural resistance power, fruits and vegetables provide the body with an added source of antioxidants that is needed to properly wage war against free radicals. These powerful antioxidants can lower our risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes-related damage and even slow down the natural aging process of our body.

Tomato the great hero

Tomato, one of the most common ingredients of cooking and available all over the world, has some amazing nutritional and health properties of antioxidants. It is a rich source of vitamin A, which prevents night blindness and short sightedness. A team of Indian researchers has recently developed a new variety of tomato that packs as much as four times more of the cancer fighting antioxidant called lycopene. Lycopene also reduces the risk of heart diseases.

Red grapes have the wonderful power of controlling the free radicals which can keep the heart beating longer and stronger mostly because of the antioxidant substances called resveratrol and quercetin found in red grapes. Resveratrol can also protect us from cancer and reduce the risk of inflammatory diseases, gastric ulcers, stroke and even osteoporosis.

Berries of all varieties are rich antioxidants since they contain a lot of fiber, minerals and vitamins, and are loaded with healing antioxidants. Fresh and juicy fruits like pomegranate, orange, plum, pineapple, lemon, dates, kiwi, etc are good antioxidants. Eating fruits and vegetables can slow down the loss of muscle elasticity that leads to wrinkles, boost our immunity making us less susceptible to illness, and control memory failure.

Nuts like pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts, almonds, walnuts, etc. are also very effective antioxidants. They contain the antioxidant resveratrol, which can reduce the risks of cancer and heart diseases. They can also inhibit the build-up of platelets in blood vessels. Resveratrol is not only beneficial in protecting from cancer, but it is also an anti-inflammatory and can help slow down the aging process and promote longevity.
