Imprisonment of Independence

January 04, 2012  by: Paulose  Points: 15   Category: Social Studies    Views: 544

Everyone wants to be free. Man wants to be free in everything without any restrictions. He wants to be free from all political, economic, and social bonds.

Man is born free but is found in fetters everywhere. The ancient Greek historian, author and philosopher Thucydides who lived in 5th century BC, says that the secret of happiness is freedom and the secret of freedom is courage. Freedom does not mean independence from everything, because man has to be dependent. Independence implies not only lack of restrictions but also the ability to stand alone, based on the search of truth. It is Truth that liberates in reality.

The US is busy preparing for the Independence Day celebrations. Varieties of events are at the last minute rehearsal. It is high time to think of the value of freedom. Believing in God they set out their journey of freedom. They had to pass through so many things before they could find a nation "by the people, of the people and for the people." They should keep this freedom safe and also the circumstances that led them towards this goal of freedom.

Freedom from fear

Independence means freedom from ignorance. It is the sense of happiness that is not stained by any feeling of guilt. Your fear or anxiety keeps you back fettered by the sense of guilt. Your pervasive sense of fear or anxiety grips your life, keeping you up at night or afraid of facing the future. Or it may be your struggle with negative feelings about your own self. Can you imagine a life without them? But certainly there is a person who can liberate you from your fetter of fear. He has said, "you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." (John 8:32RSV)

Free your relationships

Relationships are imprisoned by emotions. The anger, greed or pride in you may restrict your relationships and enslave you in your selfishness. They are deeply buried in your heart that they cloud your relationships and your outlook. They cut your love and cause frictions in your relationships. Bring them to the liberator so that he can set you free.

Free yourself from your addictions

Addiction is slavery. It is not only the addiction of drinking alcohol. There are various forms of addictions. You may be bound by an addiction to food, an unwanted or unhealthy habit, or some drug. Even activities like watching TV, shopping, or surfing the internet can also sometimes become an addiction, taking up too much of your time and energy. Come to the person who has promised to quench your insatiable thirsts.

Believe that he can free you from your fetters. Make use of him to make you free-free in the real sense. Knowledge of Truth will certainly free you.
