Here are some best tips to de-clutter your closet and wardrobe. Dive in to your closet, donate the old and frayed clothes, repair the expensive boots and re-organize your closet to reduce dressing crisis on work days and party time.
Shopping is fun is it not? Both men and women love to shop for new clothes, gadgets and other stuff. Visit any store, mall or a premium outlet on a weekday or a weekend. All these places are bustling with activity and crowds all through the year. Your wardrobe continues to burst with new and old seams. Yet, there is a crisis every day, especially when you need to dress for work or a party. Somehow, it becomes impossible to find the right attire amidst a cluttered wardrobe. Organizing your wardrobe of the clutter will help you improve your own style of dressing. Moreover, you can find fresh clothes for each day. In the process, you can consider donating or recycling your old clothes that you no longer use.
Label and De-Clutter your Wardrobe
The first half of organizing your closet begins mentally. Think of how you wish to re-arrange the wardrobe or closet. Also, keep a bag to store the old clothes and bags that have no use. These can go to a Goodwill store or charity. Consider placing your clothes in order. Sort out the various types of pants and trousers, hang your shirts to a hanger while you have a separate drawer to keep the sweatshirts, tees and inner garments. You can keep a drawer or two for the handbags, purses, wallets and belts.
Review your Existing Stock of Clothes and Accessories
Take a closer look at your closet or dressing room and you will surely find many unused or rarely used footwear, clothes and dresses. Sort out the dresses, accessories and footwear in order. Sort them by having the work clothes separated from the party wear. This will minimize confusion when you are in hurry. Remember that black, grey and brown colors are always in fashion. Your black blazer, jacket or black cocktail dress can be perfect for an evening party, both formal and informal. Similarly, boots never go out of fashion. Every winter, you can reuse the last year's boots. Certain shoe repair stores can add some glitz and voila! You have new boots at much cheaper price.
Be Honest while organizing the Wardrobe
True, we all put on few pounds in the holiday season. Blame it on the food, weather or the good times spent at the parties, buffets and luncheons. However, if you bought skinny jeans last year and they still do not fit you, they should be out of the closet. It will do no good if you keep trying them on. That will only worsen your depression. Instead, come to terms with your body and buy a new pair of jeans that flatter your figure. After that, promise to work out every day and lose some weight so you can try new skinny jeans later. Likewise, whatever you do not wear for over six months from the closet, is better off for donation, recycle or charity. By the way, get over your frayed trousers, torn jeans and stonewash jeans, they are all out of fashion.
Must Haves and Essentials in the Wardrobe
Of course there is a must have in all cases, be it kitchen or wardrobe. Some things are always in fashion. As we mentioned earlier, some colors never go out of fashion. Similarly, fitted shirts or tees, white shirts, round or a V-neck shirt or sweater will match with almost everything. Dark denims, black cocktail dresses, formal trousers, boots and flats are perfect for all occasions. You can wear them to work and an after-work party too.
Of course, if you are brave, you can try customizing the clothes so that they add glamour to you. Try to experiment with different necklines, colors and sleeve patterns. Try to match the dress with your eye color to accentuate your face or features.
Organize Accessories and Jewelry
When you are late to work, it is tough to find the right scarf, jewelry or the purse. Hence, have a separate area in your closet room for all your accessories. Better still; organize your accessories and things by color. This will be of great help when you wear different colored clothing on different days of the week. All blue scarves, bags and jewelry can have a single box whereas the greens and emerald color stuff go into another drawer. Keep the thin belts and waistbands on one side and the thicker ones on another.
Lastly, listen to your own feelings. Your friends or family may have an opinion but at the end of it, your comfort is the priority. Try the dresses and look what fits and feels comfortable. You surely do not want to trot on high heels and hard-to-breathe dresses when you do not like them. Lastly, do not consider keeping the rejected or ill-fitting clothes back in a corner in the closet. Pack them and drop at the donation box or the Goodwill store. All these simple tips will help you dress in style and minimize clutter in your closet and life too!
