Weight loss products and fad diets are highly popular among people today. Even kids and teenagers want to look skinny and nearly anorexic in the process of losing weight. Go to any store, wholesale grocery or retail outlets and you can see huge sections and aisles filled with weight loss diets, weight watchers meals plans, frozen pre-cooked meals with low calories and what not. It almost feels like a littered area that tempts people to try those products for losing weight.

However, all you need is making a few easy and sensible choices when it comes to diet, sleep and exercise. Your body needs a minimum of seven to eight hours of sleep. There is no way to beat this fact. The hidden truth- if you keep awake until late at night, you tend to binge on any unhealthy midnight snack or meal. This spikes you sugar levels, leads to diabetes, depression, weight gain and what not. Similarly, you can improve your homemade meals by cutting out the excess calories and substituting the fats and carbohydrates with protein, minerals and calcium. This not only improves your overall health, fitness and habits but also results in weight loss. Here are a few simple tips that will help you regulate your sugar and blood pressure levels and will add more nutrition to every meal that you eat.

Add More Spinach in your Meals

Spinach contains two to four grams of protein per serving. This leafy vegetable tastes well with sandwiches, omelets, lentils, cottage cheese, tofu and salads. Add more salads to your meals, especially before lunch and dinner. It is the best way to consume more greens and fiber. You can add a handful of nuts to a spinach salad and boost the protein and nutrition value of the salad plate. Try a cheese, capsicum and spinach omelet and your kids will surely love the new tasty breakfast!

Pick up Water instead of Soft Drinks

Say no to sodas and yes to water. Water is natural and calorie free beverage that detoxifies your body without any extra cost. Add a dash of lemon and honey to plain or cold water and carry it to the gym. You will feel fresh while you drink this lemonade and work out. Moreover, next time when you feel thirsty at work, restaurants or at the gym, grab water rather than the sugary beverages. Even concentrated fruit juices can spike your sugar levels and are bad for people with diabetes or those on the borderline diabetes.

Use Unsalted Butter and Low Fat Cheese

We use butter several times a day while cooking, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is an essential ingredient while baking too. Kids and adults love butter or cheese and hence, there is no good way to remove it completely from the meals. However, you can make healthy substitutions by using unsalted and whipped butter, cottage cheese, low fat cheese and cheese spreads. These days, we can find many good brands that sell organic and low fat butters and cheeses. These contain 40 to 50 percent less cholesterol, sodium and sugar that regular butter and cheese.

Snack on Whole Grains

Carry whole grain snacks for work, school or the gym. These can help you overcome the snack time hunger. Use whole grain chips, whole grain crackers and biscuits to satiate the tummy in the afternoon or early evening during the teatime. Crackers with guacamole or spinach dips can be a healthy alternative to cheese and cracker snacks. Likewise, you can try multi-grain and whole grain cereal for breakfast. All these are healthy substitutions for losing weight fast.

Healthy Dessert Alternatives

Who does not like something sweet after a meal? Well, do not fret about giving up on ice creams and sweets. You can indulge in them once or twice a month. For rest of the time, you can make delicious yogurt and fruit parfaits; eat flavored yogurt, gelato and fruit bowls instead of candies and sweets. Moreover, fruits like apples, berries, pears, plums and papaya and good for your metabolism too. They are safe alternatives for diabetics too.

Healthy Low Fat Salad Dressings

Dressings add taste to bland salads. However, processed salad dressings in the market are high in fat, sugar, sodium and cholesterol. Instead, you can make perfectly tasty and low fat salad dressings at home using freshly squeezed lemon, olive oil, salt, pepper and honey. These will help you cut down some more calories while adding the same taste to your salad. Toss in a handful of nuts, dried berries and feta cheese to make your salad more yummy.

Low Fat Milk is Healthy

Full fat milk maybe tasty but is bad for your cardiovascular health. Those who are diabetic but love milk can try the soymilk or non-fat milk. These alternatives also contain nine grams of protein per serving but have fewer calories and cholesterol. These choices can cut down a 100 or more calories from your daily diet!

Keep Away from Canned and Processed Foods

Canned and Processed foods have high amounts of sodium and cholesterol. Some even have saturated fats too. Once you add more fruits and vegetables to your meals, you are a winner automatically. However, if you can eliminate processed foods and frozen meals, you can achieve your weight loss goal faster. Instead of buying pre-cooked frozen dinners, cook extra food and store in an airtight container for the next day. Use fresh vegetables and fruits rather than the processed ones. Some brands sell organic frozen vegetables, which are safe for your daily cooking.

Sometimes, it is not possible to make fresh juice or smoothies at home for breakfast. In such cases, avoid fruit flavored beverages. Instead, try to pick up brands that sell 100% juice made from pulp. Alternatively, you can buy frozen berries and fruit smoothies to churn them in the processor in a minute while making breakfast or toast. Likewise, try to skip on extra salt in your food. Instead, try to add flavor using other spices like pepper, cinnamon, or herbs. All these tips are easy to follow and implement in your daily routine.
