Hiking simply means walking outdoors. Usually, hilly areas and sloped surfaces are preferred for hiking. Hiking is the best way to lose weight while enjoying the natural beauty outdoors. It is a free way to lose weight.

         

Hiking is not a herculean task. It can be a good way to lose weight while enjoying the outdoors. While some people enjoy working out at the gym, trying free weights and swimming or aerobics, others like to walk outside or hike. In fact, some places also offer ranger hikes or guided hikes every day.

Some small parks and lakeside woods have a nice hiking path. Most of these parks and woods are free for hikers and visitors but when you visit certain National parks, you may have to pay a small fee for the entrance or hiking. Hiking regularly works well to improve your fitness and stamina. Of course, always consult your physician or doctor before you begin any exercise program. Some people tend to be allergic to pollen and hiking may also cause health issues to people with any medical condition, allergies, asthma or those who are on medication.

Always begin with a smaller hike. Hiking is nothing but walking outside in any natural environment setting. You can choose the easiest hike if you are a beginner. Small hikes range from 1.5 miles to 2 miles. When you walk on a flat ground for two miles or two and a half miles, you can burn nearly 300 calories. It will be a nice idea if your hiking path comprises of slopes. That will help you burn more calories due to the inclined surface area.

Intense Hiking Tips

You can increase the intensity of your workout while hiking outdoors too. Simply carry a small school bag or a backpack filled with water or some lightweight. This will put more effort on your leg muscles while you walk. Hilly areas are the best choice for a good cardio work out. It will increase your strength and endurance due to the high intensity hiking.

Change Hike Area to beat Boredom

Hiking the same path everyday can become boring. Hence, choose different hikes as often as possible. You can also try to collect interesting specimens while you hike. If you like photography, carry your camera and click a few photos of the nature when you take a break during the hike.

If you are a beginner, do not worry. Hiking is not a dangerous activity. You are not mountain climbing or rock climbing. When you hike, you just walk on a road with slopes or even a flat surface. You can take frequent breaks and stops because you will feel exhaustion in the first few weeks. Once you get used to hikes, you will see that you will be able to finish the 1.5 mile hike sooner that you expect.

Always wear clothing that fully covers your arms and legs. This is important if you are hiking in a forest area. There may be small insects or flies that can cause bug bites and skin allergies. Always use proper walking shoes for hiking. Do not hike with open footwear because it will not prevent injuries. Remember to carry a water bottle because you will feel quite thirsty after few minutes of hiking.

All these tips and suggestions will help you become a successful hiker. You will realize that weight loss is not a tough task after all. It just needs some amount of motivation and interesting physical activities to lose weight.
