Windows 8 Consumer Preview

February 27, 2012  by: Karthik  Points: 10   Category: Software    Views: 549

All about the much awaiting windows 8 consumer preview.

In September 2011 Microsoft has released the Developer Preview with some changes to it Microsoft has decided to launch Windows 8 Customer Preview on 29th February 2012. Here are the some interesting facts about Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

The metro interface part of the developer preview is a promising start for a good OS for touch based devices, such as tablets and smart phones. However the preview seems to be lacking several elements needed for a useable experience on a standard PC, most notably an acceptable solution for multi-tasking. Open programs don’t appear on the desktop taskbar, and the available methods of switching between open applications are clumsy at best. I for one will be hoping this omission is just down to the pre-release nature of the preview and that users will be able to tailor the interface to the device it is being used on. For instance, on a tablet device you would want the full metro experience, whereas on a PC with a Keyboard and mouse you would want a more traditional desktop experience, preferably with a traditional start menu etc.

Despite these misgivings I’m glad Microsoft are trying to merge functionality across all platforms; PC, Tablet, Smart Phone and probably games console as well, as this can only be a good thing for consumers, as long as it works of course! And if it doesn’t you can always call Ace Computer Support.
