Health Benefits of Potassium

Potassium is one of the important mineral needed by the body in very small amount to run its body functions properly. Potassium is contained in various fruits and vegetables like bananas, mangoes, green vegetables and spinach.


Potassium has lot of health benefits which are as follow-

1. Potassium is needed by the body to run its various body functions. Potassium is needed by the body for the healthy functioning of central nervous system, brain and nerves.

2. Potassium is also needed by the digestive system to run various metabolic reactions as some reactions occur only in the presence of some enzymes which act in the presence of potassium ions.

3. Potassium also helps in maintaining electrolyte balance of body. Deficiency of it causes weakness, fatigue and anxiety.

4. People suffering from anemia usually show deficiency of potassium in their food along with iron deficiency in their blood. Therefore, include potassium in your diet to have healthy absorption of iron.

5. Potassium also helps in transmission of nerve impulses from brain to different organs and from different organs to brain.

6. As potassium helps in maintaining electrolyte balance of body, so therefore it is very good to have a lemon juice after vigorous exercise or heavy work schedule as it contains sufficient quantity of potassium to restore the electrolyte and water balance of body as lot of water is lost during heavy workout schedule or in exercise in the form of sweat.
