Two Healthy Dishes With Spinach

Here are two healthy, tasty and nutritious dishes with spinach. Please go through this article and learn how to make these dishes and try to make.


Spinach is a leafy vegetable with large amount of vitamins and minerals. It is leaded with calcium, iron, folic acid, vitamin A, C and K. So that it is one of the non-avoidable foods during pregnancy. Daily intake of spinach will protect us from mucus and other respiratory infections. It is the best medicine for anemia. It can improve the hemoglobin level of our blood. Drinking spinach juice three times a day can remove all blood disorders and also can give more strength and energy to our body. Having spinach at least twice a week will protect your eyes from macular degeneration and cataract which are age-related diseases. Spinach is very good for getting good sleep and it is really good for our skin and hair. It helps us to keep our skin healthy. Intake of spinach will protect us from constipation, digestion troubles and from stomach ulcers. Spinach is very essential for the growth of new body cells because it is rich source of vitamin A.

If we keep spinach in water with its root, it won’t fade soon. There are many varieties of spinach around us. Some of them are red in colour but some are green. The red spinach contains more nutrients than the green one. When we cook spinach, add a pinch of sugar to maintain the colour of the leaf. Usually children do not like the taste of spinach. Mix some tomato sauce with cooked spinach and keep this mixture inside two pieces of bred and give it to them.

Here I have given two different recipes which we can make with spinach.

Pachadi: -

In Kerala pachadi is must for Onam and Vishu festivals. It is the combination of vegetables and yogurt. We can make pachadi with different vegetables. The flavor of mustard seeds gives a special taste for this dish. It is a very healthy food.

How to make pachadi with red spinach:-


. Chopped Red Spinach – 3 cups
. Green Chilly – 3
. Grated Coconut – 1 cup
. Mustard Seeds – 1 small spoon
. Curd (not so sour) – 1 cup
. Salt – as to taste
. Coconut Oil – 1 big spoon
. Curry Leaf – 2 springs
. Dried Red Chilly – 3

Take a pan and cook the chopped red spinach by adding required water and salt. Grind the coconut and green challis in a mixer and make a smooth paste. Then add mustard seeds into the paste and just crush them for a second. Mash the cooked spinach with a spoon and mix it with the pasted coconut. When it boils, switch off the stove and let it cool. Then add curd to this and mix well. If salt is not enough, add more.

For Seasoning:-

Heat oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds. When they begin to crackle, add dried chillies and curry leaves. Saute for one minute. Pour the seasoning over pachadi and have with hot rice.

Spinach – Jackfruit seeds Curry: -

There are large numbers of jackfruits in Kerala during summer season. People in Kerala like to make variety of dishes with jackfruit and jackfruit seeds. We can make a very tasty curry by mixing jackfruit seeds with spinach.

How to make Spinach – Jackfruit seeds Curry:-


. Green Colour Spinach – 3 bunches
. Grated Coconut - half shell
. Dry Red Chilly – 5
. Turmeric Powder – 1 small spoon
. Salt – to taste
. Small Onions – 1 cup
. Jackfruit Seeds – 1 cup
. Coconut Oil – 2 tbsp

Peel the jackfruit seeds and cut into long thin pieces. Clean the seeds well. Then add salt and turmeric powder into the seeds and mix well. Take a pan and cook the seeds well without adding too much of water. Then wash spinach well and chop them thoroughly. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When they splutter, add chopped spinach and stir well. Add salt and cover the pan. Cook till the leaves become soft. Make the paste of coconut, red chilies and small onions by grinding them well in a mixer. Now add coconut mixer and stir well. Then mix the cooked jackfruit seeds into the spinach and mix well. Garnish it with curry leaves. You can have it with hot rice.

Spinach is a tasty and healthy leafy vegetable. So we must include spinach in our daily diet. We can make varieties of dishes with spinach leaves. It is very good for your children. So try different dishes in accordance with the taste of your children and loved ones.
