Dear Ajay, Thank you very much for sharing such useful information. I read your article with great interest and found it very interesting, informative and useful. Some of the tips you have mentioned in your article are also known to me through my mother and grandmother. I have used Neem personally and I can vouch for its use.

Your article awakes my inquisitiveness and therefore I would like to ask you few questions:

1. Why would one feel bitterness in throat after putting his/her feet in the warm Neem water?

2. Is it really safe to use Neem Kajal for the eyes? I remember in my childhood I used to use Almond kajal but not Neem kajal which my grandmother prepared for me.

Once again I would like to thank you for this valuable information and I hope my questions are not too much trouble for you to answer.

I use the need leaves to a greater extent in the hot days. I keep the leaves under my cap. So, I feel lesser heat when I move out. I also keep the leaves inside my shirt from all sides. That gives me a great amount of protection against the harmful sun rays. I often follow this practice as I cannot bear the hot sun for a long time.

Thanks for sharing this interesting piece of information Abhijit. Is it only with neem leaves or with any type of leaves that you can achieve the cooling effect? Also I would like to know because neem has a distinct aroma so, when you put neem leaves inside your shirt do they smell? Pardon me my inqusitiveness but it is just that I am a great supporter of using neem and try to know more and more about its uses.

@ Sarika,

I am not the best person to answer the questions asked by you because the article which I wrote above is a product of my sheer research work. But, anyhow, I will try my level best to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.

Applying kajal that are available in the market is not good for the eyes. This is so because they are prepared with chemical ingredients which are harmful to the eyes. For instance, to give a dark color to the kajal charcoal is used. Apart from this, to give a glow to the commercial kajal silver nitrate is used which is again harmful to the eyes and causes burning, irritation and redness of eyes. In contrast to these commercially prepared kajals, home made kajals are best to use as they are good to the eyes. Though there are not any well defined processes to prepare home made kajals, people use different processes which they have learned or inherited from their ex-generation like grandmother, moms etc. I have heard that almond kajals are also good for the eyes and it does not have any side affects whatsoever.

Now coming back to your other question, the answer is that most of the nerve endings of the body are around the region of our skin. In fact, our skin surface affects directly or indirectly the functions of our endocrine glands, the nervous system etc. Besides, our feet have many active glands which when comes in contact with neem water has some affect on the nerves and in turn on our body. Therefore, we feel a taste of bitterness in our throat.

Once again, I would like to reiterate the fact that I am not an expert advisor on all these and whenever I write an article or a resource it is totally based on my research work.

Thank you very much for your answers. I have used home made kajal for a long time. My grandmother used to say that it will make my eyes bigger and beautiful. After growing up and studying science I came to know that size of the eye never increases. It remains the same throughout one''s life but yes using kajal makes one''s eyes look more bigger and expressive.
Commercial kajals are not good becuase as u mentioned they use chemicals. I have only used almond kajal, but now i will try neem kajal too.

I hope bitterness in throat is not a reaction towards neem. Are there incidents where people are allergic to neem? I do not know any. If you know then please do share this information too. Once again thanks for your answers and keep up the good work. My best wishes for you.
