How to get good marks in examinations?

May 06, 2012  by: deepa  Points: 12   Category: Others  Earning $0.45   Views: 849

Every student is anxious to get good marks in exams. There are tips and tricks to get good marks. The right use of today will guarantee a better tomorrow. Study tips to get great marks are given below.

1. Read your text book from day one of the academic year. Read the lesson taught on the first day. The next day look through the first day’s portion and read the second day’s portion. After a week, look through the week’s portions. By the end of the term, a student would have become thorough with the text book. This will give a clear picture of the portions and leave no doubt on the day of the exam.

2. Never demean yourself before others. Saying words like ‘don’t know’ or ‘didn’t understand’ will create a negative energy or vibration which will have a bad effect on the student. Always be positive because this will help to encourage the mind and spirit.

3. Don’t leave studying the portions till the day before the exam. The subject should be considered interesting even if it is not. Further research can be done by surfing the net for information. Tidbits will help to clear doubts and images will help kindle interest. There are lots of free answer sheets available on the educational sites, which a student can answer in order to get practice.

4. Write short notes about the chapters that you read. This will help the brain to remember the things that were studied. It will also help during the time of revision.

5. Combined study is good but it should be serious and not be diverted with other silly distractions. Clear cut aims will help a student to stay concentrated on the subject.

6. Teaching other weak students will also be helpful in learning the portions thoroughly. One can also earn some pocket money through teaching while studying.

7. Do not concentrate on other matters while preparing for an exam. It could be a new car or a mobile phone. Being interested in other things will only help the mind to deviate and lose concentration. Thus the student will not be able to give his full attention to the subject.

8. Asking the teacher doubts or queries is a good idea. The teacher will have a fair idea of probable questions. So, he or she will be able to help the student in some way or other.

9. Answering previous year’s question papers is very good because the questions could repeat and the student will get an idea about the format of the questions.

Dear Deepa, Your article was very informative and provides good tips to be successful in examinations. I agree to all the points you have mentioned except one.

You have mentioned that one should not say "I do not know" or "I did not understand" in front of others. I believe in just the opposite. I do not look at it as a way of demeaning myslef but as a way of increasing my knowledge. If I do not understand something I always say I do not understand. I think it is better to say it out then to sit there without understanding and later feel like you do not know about the topic cos you missed some important details. Later when questions are asked and you are not able to answer because you were so shy and self concious at the time when topic was discussed earlier in class, is a more shameful situation then to say "I do not know but I would definately like to know and understand".

I believe no matter how many times one has to say I donot understand, one should say it till they understand. No need to be shy. No one knows everything and no one will. Just feel that you are one among the crowd and want to learn more and more. Always ask "why" and say "I do not understand" when you do not.
