The Delhi Daredevils has been the most consistent team in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League. The Delhi team has won seven out of their nine matches they have played till now. Though cricket is a team game, the credit goes to the captain Virender Sehwag for this tremendous showing.

The Delhi Daredevils has been the most consistent team in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League. The Delhi team has won seven out of their nine matches they have played till now. And the man behind the success is the Nawab of Najafgarh and the hard-hitting Virender Sehwag.
Let us have a look at how Team Delhi has progressed in the current IPL season so far.
First Match:
Played on Apr 5, 2012 against the Kolkata Knight Riders
Summary:
The Delhi Daredevils won by 8 wickets with 5 balls to spare.
The opponent’s score:
The very first match for the Daredevils was a truncated match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Both teams had 12 over to play. Batting first the Kolkata Knight Riders scored 97 runs. Morne Morkel was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi as he took three wickets in three overs, conceding only 18 runs.
Sehwag’s score:
Sehwag set the tone for the overall performance in the very first match itself. He scored only 20 runs. However, as usual the score came off only 13 balls that included one hit to the fence and one over it. Sehwag scored at a strike rate of 153.84.

Second Match:
Played on Apr 7, 2012 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore
Summary:
The Delhi Daredevils lost by 20 runs.
The opponent’s score:
AB de Villiers was the star for the Royal Challengers. The score of 157 was possible due to the tremendous hitting by the South African. He scored 64 runs and remained not out. He faced 42 balls and hit six boundaries and two sixes.
Sehwag’s score:
This was probably the heaviest moment for Viru as he was sent back for a golden duck by his national team mate Zaheer Khan. The ball was bowled outside the off side, and Viru went for the cut. He cut it hard but the ball went straight to Pujara at covers.

Third Match:
Played on Apr 10, 2012 against the Chennai Super Kings
Summary:
The Delhi Daredevils won by 8 wickets with 40 balls to spare.
The opponent’s score:
Dwayne Bravo, who came to bat at number six top scored with 22 runs and that too from 31 balls. This shows there was no depth or any meaningful score by the Chennai batsmen on that particular day. All the big guns failed to fire as Chennai could muster only 110 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
Sehwag’s score:
As usual, Virender Sehwag was in his destructive form. Right from the word go, he started hitting the ball. A low scoring match didn’t mean he was going to waste any time. He scored a quick fire 33 off just 21 balls. It included four hits to the boundary and a huge six.

Fourth Match:
Played on Apr 16, 2012 against the Mumbai Indians
Summary:
The Delhi Daredevils won by 7 wickets with 31 balls to spare.
The opponent’s score:
The famed Mumbai batting lineup that included the big hitters like Levi, Jacobs, Sharma and Pollard shut themselves up in a shell against the Delhi bowling attack. It was captain Harbhajan Singh who propelled the home team to a miserable score of 92 runs. He scored 33 runs off 22 balls with one six and five fours. Rohit Sharma was the only other batsman who scored runs in the double-figure – 29.
Sehwag’s score:
Sehwag was consistent enough with the bat, but the 50-run mark was eluding him. Like against the Super Kings, Sehwag scored a 30+ against the Mumbai Indians as well. Sehwag scored 32 runs off 36 balls – this was not something that is expected of his batting.

Fifth Match:
Played on Apr 19, 2012 against the Deccan Chargers
Summary:
The Delhi Daredevils won by 5 wickets with 5 balls to spare.
The opponent’s score:
After the early fall of captain Kumar Sangakkara, it was Shikhar Dhawan and Parthiv Patel who put on 71 runs for the second wicket in around seven overs to score a competitive 157 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.
Sehwag’s score:
The consistently performing Sehwag had a rare failure in the current IPL, as he was dismissed for only seven runs. It was the ever-dependable Dale Steyn, who provided the early breakthrough for the Chargers. However, it was Kevin Pietersen all over the place, who scored his maiden IPL century to guide the Daredevils to an emphatic win.

Sixth Match:
Played on Apr 21, 2012 against the Pune Warriors
Summary:
The Delhi Daredevils lost by 20 runs
The opponent’s score:
It was the Dada magic that was cast on the steady Daredevils who lost their second match of the IPL. The Kiwi opener Jesse Ryder scored 86 runs. With Ganguly comes to form with both the bat and the ball, there was no way, the Daredevils would overcome a stiff target of 193 runs.
Sehwag’s score:
It was against the Pune team that Sehwag started his unabated knock of scoring half-centuries. This half-century was the first of the fourth. He tried to keep pace with the asking rate all along. Scoring at a rate of 178.12, Viru scored 57 runs in only 32 balls with five fours and four sixes. However, it came in a lost cause as far as the hard-hitting batsman is concerned.

Seventh Match:
Played on Apr 24, 2012 against the Pune Warriors
Summary:
The Delhi Daredevils won by eight wickets with 24 balls to spare
The opponent’s score:
The two teams met again after a span of three days. Batting first, Pune scored a healthy 146 runs with the help of 80 runs by Manish Pandey. Pandey carried the bat through. In his score, Pandey hit seven fours and three sixes.
Sehwag’s score:
There was no doubt that the spirits of the Pune team was high. They expected to repeat their performance. However, Sehwag had some other ideas. He also carried his bat through the innings by scoring 87 runs off 48 balls. With the help of 10 fours and three sixes, Sehwag rightly hit the winning runs.

Eighth Match:
Played on Apr 27, 2012 against the Mumbai Indians
Summary:
The Delhi Daredevils won by 20 runs.
The opponent’s score:
Delhi Daredevils beat the Mumbai Indians once again. It was too tough for the Mumbai batsmen to overcome a target of 208 runs. Tendulkar did play in this match, but couldn’t rescue his team. Ambati Rayudu did try to make a match of it, but the Delhi boys were too good on the day.
Sehwag’s score:
This was probably one of the finest innings from Sehwag as he faced bowlers like Malinga, Harbhajan Singh and R P Singh. Like his usual destructive self, Viru scored 73 runs off 39 balls. Without sparing any bowler, he hit eight fours and four sixes.

Ninth Match:
Played on Apr 29, 2012 against the Rajasthan Royals
Summary:
The Delhi Daredevils won by 1 run
The opponent’s score:
It was one of the most keenly fought matches by the Delhi team in this season, which they went on to win. Ajinkya Rahane played a superb knock and remained not out till the end. However, he could not see his team past.
Sehwag’s score:
He scored 63 runs off 39 balls. With eight fours and two sixes, he led his team to a competitive score of 152 runs. He was at the crease for almost 13 overs. Though wickets kept falling at the other end, the bowlers could not dominate Sehwag.
