Health benefits of honey:

Honey is used by humans for a variety of purposes like consumption as food and use in religious rituals from ages. Use of honey for medicinal purposes is well known and well-practiced all around the world. Some of the health benefits of honey are:

1. Consumption of honey is known to have positive effect on body’s Immune system. Honey is rich in vitamins and minerals and has powerful antibacterial properties which help boost the immune system.

2. Honey is a great natural source of predigested sugars which provide instant energy when consumed. This is the reason why honey is considered as the Nature’s energy booster.

3. Consumption of honey not only soothes sore throat but also kills certain agents causing infection due to its anti-microbial activity. Honey can also generate heat in the body and thus is very helpful during cold.

4. It is an age old practice to apply honey on cuts and burn wounds. Honey is antiseptic and also has the capacity to absorb water from atmosphere which helps in quick healing of the wound. It also functions as an anti-inflammatory agent and reduces swelling and pain, and even scarring.

5. Because of its antiseptic and anti-allergic properties honey is used in beauty products such as creams and face masks. It also rejuvenates skin due to its property to absorb water from the environment and delays aging of the skin due to its antioxidant properties. It can reduce facial redness and acne.

6. Honey has been shown to reduce the damage done to the colon in colitis due to its antioxidant properties. It also delays aging caused by the presence of free radicals.

7. Honey can be used to treat hair loss or baldness due to its capacity to strengthen the hair follicle.

8. Honey is a heat generator and helps to burn fat and thus leads to lose in body weight.

9. Honey is stated to cure some allergies. Raw honey contains pollen from the floral source it was made and when consumed is thought to protect the person from hay fever.

18. Honey has shown some healing effects towards asthma by relieving the asthmatic symptoms like chest congestion, inflammation, swelling, cough and pain.

19. Honey has been used to treat a variety of ulcers like peptic ulcers, diabetic ulcers or leg ulcers with considerable success. It is advised as an alternative medicine for this medical condition.

20. Eczema is a persistent inflammation of the skin’s outer layer. Manuka honey has been shown to have exceptionally healing properties. It is antibacterial and helps prevent infection, heals the damaged skin and also helps in regenerating new and healthy skin.
