A simple sambhar - ready in fifteen minutes

A quick and easy to make sambhar recipe is given below. It is not only easy on the budget but also delicious.


Vethakku Pachadi


1. Vegetables like ladies finger or bitter gourd. You can also use carrot or egg plant.

2. Dry powder mix of urad dal and red chilly

3. Sesame seed powder

4. Tamarind

5. Mustard seeds, oil, red chilly and curry leaves for seasoning.

6. Water

7. Salt


Cut the vegetables into small pieces. Season the mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chilly in a spoon of oil in a pan or kadai. After that, fry the vegetables for some time till they are light brown. Pour a cup of water and let the vegetables cook. Add salt. Put a little tamarind pulp and mix well. Put a spoon of dry urad dal and chilly powder mixture and sesame seed powder. Mix till the pachadi is of quite thick consistency. Switch off the gas and sprinkle coriander leaves. A little sugar can be added to increase the taste and remove the bitterness of the tamarind.

This dish is easy to make because the dry masala can be prepared and stored in advance. h preparation time involves only fifteen minutes. There are no extra calories and it can be taken along with rice, roti, chapati or bread. The spice can be increased or decreased according to preference.
