Sony Xperia S Review

Sony Xperia S is packing a 4.3-inch display with 720 by 1280 pixels of resolution and a MSM8260 dual-core chipset clocked at 1.5GHz. 12-megapixel camera with an Exmor R sensor will be present on its back side, a front-facing shooter is present as well. In terms of storage, 32 gigs are at your disposal. Unfortunately, instead of Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 2.3 Gingerbread will come out of the box, but an update is scheduled for the second half of 2012.

Body and Display:

The dimensions of the phone are 128 x 64 x 10.6 mm. It weighs about 144 gram. It has touch sensitive controls. The type of the touch screen is LED-backlit LCD, capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours. The screen size is 4.3 inches with approximately 342 ppi pixel density. The screen resolution of the phone is 720 x 1280 pixels. The touchscreen is protected by Scratch resistant glass – Sony mobile BRAVIA Engine, TimeScape UI.

Memory:

The phone does not offer microSD card slot. The internal memory of the phone is good. It comes with 32GB internal memory. The user does not need extra memory card as the internal memory itself is very high. The user can store his favourite music, videos, movies etc with its 32GB internal storage itself. It also comes with 1GB Random Access Memory.

Features:

The phone comes with Android OS, v2.3.5 (Gingerbread) but it can be upgraded to v4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It also comes with 1.4 GHz Central Processing Unit. The processor is the main computing component of a phone and is a major factor when it comes to the overall speed of the device. Some more powerful smartphones use dual core and quad core processors. This phone uses dual core processor. The GPU is Adreno 220. The chipset is Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon. It has sensors like Accelerometer, Gyro, proximity, and compass. It has Stereo FM radio with RDS. It is available in two colours – Black, and White. It supports MicroSIM card. It has key features like SNS Integration, Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, Organizer, MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV player, MP3/eAAC+/WMA/WAV player, Video/Photo ediotor, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk, Picasa Integration, Voice memo/dial/commands, Predictive text inputs (Swype), TV launcher, TrackID music recognition, Document editor and Document Viewer.

Connectivity:

Sony Xperia S utilizes both EDGE and GPRS in order to connect to cellular networks. It is easy to get access to Internet through both Wi-Fi networks as well as HSPDA connections. It has the facility of Bluetooth connection and micro USB which help to connect with other hardware devices directly or indirectly.

Camera:

The set has a very powerful camera. It comes with 12 Megapixel primary camera. The camera has the resolution of 4000x3000 pixels. The picture quality is superb. The features such as autofocus, LED flash are also available. Other features of the camera include Back-illuminated sensor (BSI), Auto focus, Touch to focus, Image stabilizer, Face detection, Panorama, Scenes. It also has a secondary camera with 1.3MP on the front to make video calls.

Battery:

The phone is powered by standard Li-Ion 1750 mAh battery. The stand by time provided by the battery is up to 450 hours in 2G networks and up t0 420 hours in 3G networks. The talk time is up to 7 hours 20 minutes in 2G networks and up to 8 hours 30 minutes in 3G networks. The stand by time and talk time are good for a smart phone.

Market Status:

This model was announced on January, 2012. It was released on February, 2012. Now it is available in the Indian markets.
