Indigestion? Follow these home remedies

Everyone has faced the horrors of indigestion at one stage of their life. Those who have experienced it, know it very well, how difficult life can be if the problem arises.


The stomach is the center of a man’s health. And if that itself is affected, then the entire system can collapse in no time. But here are some home remedies for fighting indigestion.

Orange, one of the commonly found fruits is a great digestion booster. In other words, it can be termed as a valuable home remedy for indigestion. The orange juice helps in relaxing the digestive organs. This gets off the unnecessary digestion load on the digestion function. Orange also acts as an effective nutrition.
It fights the weakness of the body faster thereby giving the necessary energy. That is the reason why orange juice is preferred for people who have been on hunger strikes.

Cardamom seeds are also highly recommended for people suffering from indigestion. It however, requires a mixture of other ingredients like ginger, coriander and cloves. All the ingredients ground together finely prove to be a useful solution for indigestion. Use all the items in equal proportion. However, ginger will give a sharp taste. So you can add it according to your desired taste.

Lemon juice
Lemon juice is by far the best of the home remedies for indigestion. Lemon has scores of medicinal uses – fighting indigestion is one of them. Consuming a glassful of water mixed with lemon juice can give quick relief from indigestion. If the volume of the trouble is high, take only half a glass of water and squeeze one full lemon juice. You can add salt to taste. The more is the juice intake, the better for your tummy.

At times indigestion and heartburn come hand-in-hand. Peppermint is the best solution in such cases. It not only helps in giving relief from indigestion but also lessens the heartburn. Chew peppermint leaves. It will give you immediate respite from indigestion. The leaves will prove to be more effective if chewed early in the morning without eating anything.

Basil leaves
The Basil plant has loads and loads of medicinal characteristics. That is why it is very commonly used for fighting indigestion as it works better on the stomach. Chop around 4 to 6 Basil leaves. Mix them in about 3 tbsp of curds. Add black pepper and ¼ tsp of sea salt. Consume the mixture at least three to four times a day. Repeat as long as you do not get total relief from your problem.

Baking soda
Another effective home remedy against indigestion is the baking soda. Mix not more than 1 tsp of baking soda in one glass of water. Drink the solution immediately. The mixture of soda and water works wonders. The gas in your tummy will vanish in a matter of moments. Repeat according to your need. You should certainly find relief sooner.

Cumin seeds
Cumin seeds are extremely friendly when it comes to giving your indigestion a run. The powder of cumin seeds is what works in your favor. Take a heap of teaspoon of cumin seed powder. Chop some coriander leaves to add to the mixture. If you get the juice of coriander leaves, it would be even better. Drink at least two such glasses a day as long as you feel respite.

Curry leaves
Extract the juice of the curry leaves by crushing them finely. Take a glassful of water and add the juice of at least half a lemon to it. Now, add the juice of the curry leaves and stir properly. You can add a few drop of honey to bring taste to the mixture. Once the solution is ready, drink it immediately. It will carry out the necessary functioning inside your stomach as and when it is fresh.

Buttermilk has a cooling characteristic. That is why it is a preferred drink in the hot summer days. At the same time, it also helps in warding off indigestion. Take a glassful of buttermilk and add some coriander leaves to it. Crush some curry leaves and add them to the mixture to bring some taste. Red pepper powder is also added sometimes. But be careful. It may augment the stomach problems as you are already fighting indigestion.

Herbal tea
Herbal tea is one of the better options to improve the digestion system and at the same time steer clear of indigestion. In this tea, ingredients like mint, blackberry and raspberry play a major role. Mix all these three ingredients to have one cup of tea that will show the good positive results sooner than later.

Triphala is an Ayurvedic medicine and one of the surest to make the positive impact on most types of stomach problems, including indigestion. It is a laxative that is mild in nature. It primarily reinstates your digestive fire, which indirectly means it wards off the indigestion. At times Triphala is consumed with honey to taste.

The remedies of many common ills are also commonly found within our house itself. You need not visit a doctor for a trivial problem like indigestion. Follow the above-mentioned tips to get the positive results.

Hi suni51, lemon juice is the best bet for bad stomach. Why I advocate it, is because I have experienced the same on a number of occasions. It gives instant relief and I always resort to this method.

Yes Abhijit health is really important. We should give more important to our health. Health is wealth. If wealth is lost, we can gain it some day. But if health is lost, it will be hard to get back our previous healthy condition. So always we should give more importance to our health than wealth.

Wow! very nice article!! Indigestion is a misery. I guess Eno salt also works fine..but as you mention, peppermint, green tea and other herbal remedies are really good!
