The Apple iPad 3, or simply iPad, as it is officially called, is Apple''''s latest foray in the contemporary tablet market - a market the company single-handedly started about two years ago. Although the third-generation iPad remains the same on the outside (not a bad thing), it does bring a lot of improvements on the inside. Here is a short review about the New iPad.


The Apple iPad 3, or simply iPad, as it is officially called, is Apple's latest foray in the contemporary tablet market - a market the company single-handedly started about two years ago. Although the third-generation iPad remains the same on the outside (not a bad thing), it does bring a lot of improvements on the inside. First of all, it has a new screen resolution of 2048x1536 pixels, delivering an amazing for a tablet pixel density of 264 ppi. Another major improvement has to do with the processor of the device, which is now the so-called A5X - still a dual-core processor, but with a new quad-core GPU for outstanding graphics performance. The camera has also been given a boost and is now much more capable in terms of both photo- and video-taking.

Body and Display:

The dimensions of the tablet are 241.2 x 185.7 x 9.4 mm. It weighs about 662 grams. The type of the touch screen is LED backlit IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours. In capacitive touchscreens, we can't use usual stylus. Capacitive touchscreens will work only if we touch using a conductor. Our body is a conductor. So we should use our fingers to work with capacitive touchscreen tablets. The screen size is 9.7 inches with approximately 264 ppi pixel density. The screen resolution of the tablet is 1536 x 2048 pixels. The touchscreen is protected by Scratch-resistant glass, oleophobic coating.

It has multitouch feature also. Multitouch refers to the ability of a touch sensing surface to recognize the presence of two or more points of contact with the touch sensing surface. This is a tablet with no support for GSM voice communication.


The tablet does not offer microSD card slot. The internal memory of the tablet is very good. It comes with 16GB/32GB/64GB internal memory. The user does not need extra memory card as the internal memory itself is very high. The user can store his favourite music, videos, movies etc with its 16GB/32GB/64GB internal storage itself. It also comes with 1GB Random Access Memory.


The tablet comes with iOS 5.1 Operating System. It also comes with 1 GHz Cortex-A9 Central Processing Unit. The processor is the main computing component of a phone or tablet and is a major factor when it comes to the overall speed of the device. Some powerful smartphones or tablets use dual core and quad core processors. This phone uses dual core processor. The GPU is PowerVR SGX543MP4 (quad-core graphics). The chipset is Apple A5. It has sensors like Accelerometer, gyro, and compass. It doesn’t have FM Radio.

GPS is also available with A-GPS support and GLONASS. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.

The model is available in two colours – Black and White. It supports only MicroSIM card. It has key features like iCloud cloud service, Twitter integration, MP4/MP3/WAV/AAC player, Photo viewer/editor, Audio&video player/editor, iBooks PDF reader, Google Maps, TV-out etc.


Apple iPad 3 utilizes both EDGE and GPRS technologies in order to connect to cellular networks. The speed of internet connection is DC-HSDPA, 42 Mbps; HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps, LTE, 73 Mbps; Rev. A, up to 3.1 Mbps. It is easy to get access to Internet through both Wi-Fi networks as well as HSPDA connections. It has the facility of Bluetooth connection and micro USB which help to connect with other hardware devices directly or indirectly.


The tablet has a very powerful camera. It comes with 5 Megapixel primary camera. The camera has the resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The picture quality is superb. The features of the camera include Touch focus, face detection, geo tagging, video stabilization etc. The tablet has secondary camera. It is a VGA camera (0.3MP). VGA cameras are not suitable for video calling. The tablet records videos with the resolution of 1080p and at the speed of 30fps. 1080p is a set of HDTV high-definition video modes that are characterized by 1080 horizontal lines of vertical resolution and progressive scan, meaning the image is not interlaced as is the case with the 1080i display standard. The term assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, thus implying a resolution of 1920 × 1080


The tablet is powered by standard Li-Po 11,560 mAh (42.5 Wh) battery. The stand by time provided by the battery is up to 720 hours. The talk time provided by the battery is up to 9 hours. The stand by time and talk time are good for a tablet like this.

This model was announced on March, 2012. It was released on March, 2012. It is available in Indian markets.
