Acne Vulgaris

Acne vulgaris is inflammation of pilosebaceous follicles blocked by excess production of keratin and sebum which blocks pilosebacoues ducts which becomes favorable environment for Propionobacterium acnes.

         

Acne vulgaris is inflammation of pilosebaceous follicles blocked by excess production of keratin and sebum which blocks pilosebacoues ducts which becomes favorable environment for Propionobacterium acnes.

Causes-

1. It usually occurs in teenagers during puberty.

2. Excess androgen release during puberty which causes excess sebum production by pilosebaceous glands resulting in acne.

3. Propionobacterium acnes is causative organism which colonize in the pilosebaceous follicles blocked by excess production of keratin and sebum.

4. Excess production of keratin which blocks the pilosebaceous ducts.


Symptoms-

1. Oily skin due to excess production of sebum by the pilosebacous glands. Therefore, skin is oilier more where there are more pilosebaceous glands.

2. As the acne are caused by the excess production of sebum and blockage of the exit of the sebum from the pilosebaceous ducts due to excess production of keratin which blocks the outlet and creates the ground for colonization by bacterium Propionobacterium acnes. Hence, therefore, the pustules, papules of acne occurs more at the places where there is more number of sebaceous glands for example, face, cheeks, forehead, chin, upper lip, chest, back, neck, etc.

3. Pustules, papules and nodules are there. When severe form is there, then there are red pustules.

4. Blackheads or comedones.


Treatment-

1. Wash face or affected area by acne, thrice a day.

2. Medicines to control acne under doctor’s guidance.

3. Use sunscreen to protect the skin from harsh rays of sun as acne gets flared up from excess exposure to sun rays.

4. Avoid air polluted areas as dust also blocks the pilosebaceous follicles. So do properly cleanse the face or affected area by neem face wash to remove the dust accumulated on skin due to pollution.
