Samsung Galaxy Pocket is a smartphone for budget-conscious consumers offering an 832MHz single-core processor and a 2.8-inch display with QVGA resolution. On its back it has a really basic fixed focus camera of 2 megapixels, and a 1,200mAh battery resides under its back cover. Here is a short review about Samsung Galaxy Pocket S5300.

         

Samsung Galaxy Pocket is a smartphone for budget-conscious consumers offering an 832MHz single-core processor and a 2.8-inch display with QVGA resolution. On its back it has a really basic fixed focus camera of 2 megapixels, and a 1,200mAh battery resides under its back cover.



Body and Display:

The dimensions of the phone are 103.7 x 57.5 x 12 mm. It weighs about 97 grams. The type of the touch screen is TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours. In capacitive touchscreens, we can't use usual stylus. Capacitive touchscreens will work only if we touch using a conductor. Our body is a conductor. So we should use our fingers to work with capacitive touchscreen phones. The screen size is 2.8 inches with approximately 210 ppi pixel density. The screen resolution of the phone is 240 x 320 pixels. it has touch sensitive controls.

It has multitouch feature also. Multitouch refers to the ability of a touch sensing surface to recognize the presence of two or more points of contact with the touch sensing surface.

Memory:

The phone comes with microSD card slot. The external memory can be extended up to 32GB. The internal memory of the phone is also good. It comes with 3GB internal memory. The features of the phonebook include Unlimited entries, Caller groups, Multiple numbers per contact, Search by both first and last name, Picture ID, Ring ID etc.

Features:

The phone comes with Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread) Operating System. It also comes with 832 MHz ARM 11 Central Processing Unit. The processor is the main computing component of a phone and is a major factor when it comes to the overall speed of the device. Some more powerful smartphones use dual core and quad core processors. This phone uses a single core processor only. It has sensors like Accelerometer, proximity and compass.

GPS is also available with A-GPS support. Global Positioning System is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. Java is available via Java MIDP 2.1 emulator. It has Stereo FM radio with RDS.

It is available in only one colour – Black. It supports MicroSIM card. It has key features like SNS integration, MP4/H.264/H.263 player, MP3/WAV/eAAC+ player, Organizer, Image/video editor, Document viewer, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk, Picasa integration, Voice memo/dial, Predictive text input etc.

Connectivity:

Samsung Galaxy Pocket S5300 utilizes both EDGE and GPRS technologies in order to connect to cellular networks. But it is easy to get access to Internet through both Wi-Fi networks as well as HSPDA connections. It has the facility of Bluetooth connection and micro USB which help to connect with other hardware devices directly or indirectly. NFC is not available.

Camera:

The set has a basic resolution camera. It comes with 2 Megapixel primary camera. The camera has the resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. The picture quality is not so impressive. The features of the camera include Smile detection, Exposure control, White balance, Geo tagging, Panorama, Scenes, Effects, Self-timer etc. There is no secondary camera on the front to make video calls. The phone records videos at the speed of 15fps.

Battery:

The phone is powered by standard Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery. The stand by time provided by the battery is up to 800 hours in 2G networks and up to 500 hours in 3G networks. The talk time is up to 17 hours in 2G networks and up to 5 hours 40 minutes in 3G networks. The stand by time and talk time are good for a smart phone like this.

Market Status:

This model was announced on February, 2012. It was released on April, 2012.
