Samsung GALAXY Ace 2 comes to succeed its predecessor with a dual-core 800MHz processor, 5MP camera with HD video recording, 3.8” WVGA TFT touch screen, Wi-Fi and GPS/Glonass support. Here is a short review about Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 I8160.

Body and Display:

The dimensions of the phone are 118.3 x 62.2 x 10.5 mm. It weighs about 122 grams. The type of the touch screen is PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours. In capacitive touchscreens, we can't use usual stylus. Capacitive touchscreens will work only if we touch using a conductor. Our body is a conductor. So we should use our fingers to work with capacitive touchscreen phones. The screen size is 3.8 inches with approximately 246 ppi pixel density. The screen resolution of the phone is 480 x 800 pixels. The phone has touch sensitive controls.

It has multitouch feature also. Multitouch refers to the ability of a touch sensing surface to recognize the presence of two or more points of contact with the touch sensing surface.

Memory:

The phone comes with microSD card slot. The external memory can be extended up to 32GB. The internal memory of the phone is also good. It comes with 4GB internal memory. It also comes with 768MB Random Access Memory. The features of the phonebook include Unlimited entries, Caller groups, Multiple numbers per contact, Search by both first and last name, Picture ID, Ring ID etc.

Features:

The phone comes with Android OS, v2.3 Operating System. It also comes with 800 MHz Central Processing Unit. The processor is the main computing component of a phone and is a major factor when it comes to the overall speed of the device. Some more powerful smartphones use dual core and quad core processors. This phone uses a single core processor only. The GPU is Broadcom BCM2727. It has sensors like Accelerometer, proximity and compass.

GPS is also available with A-GPS support and GLONASS. Global Positioning System is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. Java is available via Java MIDP 2.1 emulator. It has Stereo FM radio with RDS.

It is available in only one colour – Black. It supports MicroSIM card. It has key features like MP4/H.264/H.263 player, MP3/WAV/eAAC+/FLAC player, Organizer, Document editor, Image editor, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk, Picasa integration, Voice memo/dial, Predictive text input (Swype) etc.

Connectivity:

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 I8160 utilizes both EDGE and GPRS technologies in order to connect to cellular networks. But it is easy to get access to Internet through both Wi-Fi networks as well as HSPDA connections. It has the facility of Bluetooth connection and micro USB which help to connect with other hardware devices directly or indirectly. NFC is optional. Near field communication (NFC) is a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few centimetres. Present and anticipated applications include contactless transactions, data exchange, and simplified setup of more complex communications such as Wi-Fi. Communication is also possible between an NFC device and an unpowered NFC chip, called a "tag".

Camera:

The set has a very powerful camera. It comes with 5 Megapixel primary camera. The camera has the resolution of 2592x1944 pixels. The picture quality is superb. LED flash feature is also available. Other features of the camera include auto focus, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, video stabilization, fixed focus etc. There is a secondary camera on the front with 0.3MP (VGA Camera) to make video calls. The phone records videos with the resolution of 720p and at the speed of 30fps.

Battery:

The phone is powered by standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery. The stand by time provided by the battery is up to 670 hours in 2G networks and up to 640 hours in 3G networks. The talk time is up to 16 hours 20 minutes in 2G networks and up to 7 hours 30 minutes in 3G networks. The stand by time and talk time are good for a smart phone like this.

Market Status:

This model was announced on February, 2012. It was released on May, 2012.
