Network:

Operating frequency bands of any mobile phone is the key part of its specification. The supported frequency bands only determine whether a certain handset is compatible with a certain network carrier. The operating frequency brands of this phone in 2G network are GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, and in the 3G network are HSDPA 900 / 2100.

Body and Display:

The dimensions of the phone are 115.00 x 58.50 x 11.95 mm. It weighs about 115 grams. The type of the touch screen is TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours. Capacitive touch screens work by recognizing the electrical properties of the human body instead of pressure and generally we can’t use stylus in capacitive touch screens and so handwriting recognition is not allowed in capacitive touch screens. But capacitive touch screens are more sensitive than resistive touch screens.

The screen size is 3.7 inches with approximately 265 ppi pixel density. The screen resolution of the phone is 480 x 854 pixels. Pixel density refers to the concentration of pixels on a particular display, measured in pixels per inch (ppi). Pixel density is calculated by dividing the diagonal pixel resolution of a display by its diagonal size. The phone has touch sensitive controls.

The touchscreen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Gorilla Glass, manufactured by Corning, is an alkali-aluminosilicate sheet glass engineered specifically to be thin, light and damage-resistant. Its primary application is as a cover glass for the exterior of portable electronic devices with screens, such as mobile phones, portable media players, and laptop computer displays. Gorilla Glass's most useful qualities are its strength, allowing very thin glass to be made without excessive fragility, and scratch resistance.

It has multitouch feature also. Multitouch refers to the ability of a touch sensing surface to recognize the presence of two or more points of contact with the touch sensing surface. The constant tracking of the multiple points allows the mobile phone interface to recognize gestures, which enable advanced functionality such as pinch-to-zoom.

Memory:

The phone comes with microSD card slot. The external memory can be extended up to 32GB. The internal memory of the of the phone is good. It comes with 1GB internal memory. It also comes with 512MB Random Access Memory and 1GB Read Only Memory. The features of the phonebook include Unlimited entries, Caller groups, Multiple numbers per contact, Search by both first and last name, Picture ID, Ring ID etc.

It also comes with 1.0 GHz Central Processing Unit. The processor is the main computing component of a phone and is a major factor when it comes to the overall speed of the device. Some more powerful smartphones use dual core and quad core processors. This phone uses a dual core processor. The Chipset is Qualcomm MSM7227A.

It has sensors like Accelerometer, proximity and compass. GPS is also available with A-GPS support. Global Positioning System is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. Java is available via Java MIDP emulator. It has Stereo FM radio with RDS.

It is available in two colours – Brown and White. It supports MicroSIM card. It has key features like SNS integration, Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, MP3/WAV/WMA/AAC+ player, MP4/WMV/H.263/H.264 player, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Document viewer, Photo viewer/editor, Organizer, Voice memo/dial/commands, Predictive text input etc.

Connectivity:

Motorola DEFY XT535 utilizes both EDGE and GPRS Class 12 version technologies in order to connect to cellular networks. But it is easy to get access to Internet through both Wi-Fi networks as well as HSPDA connections. It has the facility of Bluetooth connection and micro USB which help to connect with other hardware devices directly or indirectly. NFC is not available.

Camera:

The set has a very powerful camera. It comes with 5 Megapixel primary camera. The picture quality is superb. LED flash feature is also available. Other features of the camera include auto focus, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, video stabilization, image stabilization etc. There is a secondary camera with 0.3MP (VGA Camera) on the front with to make video calls. The phone is powered by standard Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery. The stand by time provided by the battery is up to 290 hours. The talk time is up to 9 hours. The stand by time and talk time are good for a smart phone like this.
