The Nokia 500 is marketed as an entry level smartphone despite the 1GHz processor that is ticking under its hood. It features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 360 by 640 pixels, and a 5-megapixel camera with no flash is located on the device''''s back. The Nokia 500 is marketed as an entry level smartphone despite the 1GHz processor that is ticking under its hood. It features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 360 by 640 pixels, and a 5-megapixel camera with no flash is located on the device's back.



Body and Display:

The dimensions of the phone are 111.3 x 53.8 x 14.1 mm. It weighs about 93 grams. The type of the touch screen is TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours. In capacitive touchscreens, we can't use usual stylus. Capacitive touchscreens will work only if we touch using a conductor. Our body is a conductor. So we should use our fingers to work with capacitive touchscreen phones. The screen size is 3.2 inches with approximately 229 ppi pixel density. The screen resolution of the phone is 360 x 640 pixels.

It has multitouch feature also. Multitouch refers to the ability of a touch sensing surface to recognize the presence of two or more points of contact with the touch sensing surface.

Memory:

The phone comes with microSD card slot. The slot supports up to 32 GB microSD memory card. It also comes with 2GB internal memory. It comes with 256MB Random Access Memory and 512MB Read Only Memory. The features of the phonebook include Unlimited entries, Caller groups, Multiple numbers per contact, Search by both first and last name, Picture ID, Ring ID etc.

Features:

The phone comes with Symbian Anna Operating System. The Operating System can be upgraded to Nokia Belle. It also comes with 1 GHz ARM 11 Central Processing Unit. The processor is the main computing component of a phone and is a major factor when it comes to the overall speed of the device. Some more powerful smartphones use dual core and quad core processors. But this phone uses single core processor. It has sensors like Accelerometer, proximity, and compass. It has Stereo FM radio.

GPS is also available with A-GPS support. Global Positioning System is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.

It is available in only different colours – Black/White with covers in Black, Azure Blue, Coral Red, Purple, Khaki, Orange, Green, Pink, Silver. It supports MicroSIM card. It has key features like Exchangeable battery covers with multiple home screens (2 included in the retail box), Photo editor, Organizer, Voice command/dial, Predictive text input etc.

Connectivity:

Nokia 500 utilizes both EDGE and GPRS Class 33 version technologies in order to connect to cellular networks. It is easy to get access to Internet through both Wi-Fi networks as well as HSPDA connections. It has the facility of Bluetooth connection and micro USB which help to connect with other hardware devices directly or indirectly. NFC is not available.

Camera:

The set has a very powerful camera. It comes with 5 Megapixel primary camera. The picture quality is superb. Geo tagging feature is available. There is no secondary camera on the front to make video calls. VGA cameras are not suitable for video calling. The phone records videos at the speed of 15fps.

Battery:

The phone is powered by standard Li-Ion 1110 mAh (BL-4U) battery. The stand by time provided by the battery is up to 500 hours in 2G networks and up to 455 hours in 3G networks. The talk time is up to 7 hours in 2G networks and up to 5 hours in 3G networks. The stand by time and talk time are good for a smartphone like this. The music playback time is up to 35 hours.

Market Status:

This model was announced on August, 2011. It was released on September, 2011.
