Review of Motorola Xoom

July 04, 2012  by: Abhijit Bangal  Points: 12   Category: Gadgets  Earning $0.50   Views: 516

Motorola has in their kitty the Xoom that is one of the best products from the company so far. Let us have a closer look at it.

The Motorola Xoom happens to be at the third spot in the tablet category, behind the Samsung Galaxy Tab and iPad. There is a resemblance between the iPad and Xoom as both have a large screen and body. However, the iPad’s display is still smaller (iPad has 9.7” display while the Xoom has 10.1”).

Specifications
The Xoom comes with a dual core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. It comes with hardware graphics acceleration. As for a tablet, there is also the gig of the RAM available for you, which is certainly more than enough for a tablet.

Display
The Motorola Xoom has a display of 10.1” with a resolution of 1280 X 800. It is a great piece of work as such resolution is mostly spotted on laptops. The colors on the screen look extremely attractive because of the resolution, which is more than enough for a tablet.

Operating System
The Motorola Xoom has become the first tablet to carry the Android 3.0 Honeycomb as its operating system. It is the OS that has been specifically designed for the tablets. So, the Xoom gives you the best of what it has to offer in the OS department.

Battery
The Xoom comes with a 3250 mAh, 24.5 watt-hour Lithium Ion Polymer battery. The battery was powerful enough to give more than eight hours of video playback. This was when the brightness was adjusted to 50 per cent. It can easily last the entire day if it is used for other works such as mailing, messaging or listening to music.

Motorola Xoom as a movie player
The Motorola Xoom proves to be one of the best movie players as well. The 10.1” display with the widescreen gives a pleasant and real-life viewing experience. The HDMI port makes the Xoom the best portable player. The only downside is that the OS does not support a variety of video formats.

Motorola Xoom as an eBook reader
If you are with the LCD version, the Xoom can be your best eBook reader. It works fine in the company of Kindle or Goolge apps. You will not find browsing and downloading eBooks easier than this from Google Books. The usual ePub format makes the downloading a child’s play.

Is the Motorola Xoom enough as a device?
The Motorola Xoom can easily be termed as the replacement for the Netbook more than that of the iPad. The MicroSD card and the USB device make data accessibility a lot easier. The upside of the Xoom is that it gives you a completely computer-like experience through its tabbed browser, the Adobe Flash player (coming soon) along with large screen and high resolution viewing.

With Verizon as the carrier, it offers a two year bond for around $200 as discount. If you are not happy with this, the month over month postpaid option is always open for you. For 1 gig data, the plans start with $20 per month rates. However, the $35 plan for 3 months also looks good enough.

Conclusion
Views and opinions can vary, but in my eyes, the Motorola Xoom is the best product from Motorola. You will get full value for your money and in fact, get back much more than that.
