Always keep a mention of your IMEI number of your mobile phone. It is a great way to stay safe.

Keeping in mind the criminal and terrorist activities going on around us all the while, it is important we take care of ourselves. If on one hand technology can help you and prove to be a boon, on the other, it can bring you in trouble quite easily. We are talking about the IMEI number.
The IMEI number system is generally found in Africa, Australia, Europe and Asia. However, it is also getting quite popular in the US too. The number is used to find out if the subscriber of the phone is valid and what type of equipment is being used.

What is the IMEI number?
The International Mobile Equipment Identity also known as the IMEI number, is a permanent number and is the identity of everyone’s mobile phones. The way the chassis number is unique for every engine for an auto, in the same way the IMEI number is the unique identity of a mobile handset.

How to find the IMEI number?
So here is how you can find the IMEI number of your mobile phone:
Dial the following in the same sequence as shown – *#06#. First press the “*” button on your handset followed by the hash sign. As you press the last hash sign, it will show a 15-digit number on your screen. This is the IMEI number we are talking about. You can save the “*#06#” sequence in your contacts as well. so you will not have to remember it, in case you forget.
There is an alternative method to find the IMEI number as well. To carry these steps out, switch off the phone. Remove its battery. Now below the space of the battery, look for a white label. This is where you can find the IMEI number. At times, there would be 17 digits as well.
However, you can match the number below the battery with the one you can found using the *#06# sequence. Take into account the first 15 digits only and not all the 17. You can confirm the number this way.

What are the exceptions?
The above-mentioned sequence will not work for some specific phones under specific conditions. For example, the “*#06#” sequence will not give you the IMEI number if you have a phone with Verizon or Sprint carrier (these two carriers are mainly doing business in the United States).
In place of the IMEI number, they have an ESN number. This is pretty much similar to the IMEI number.
