Why People Crave for Junk Food after Exercise

You can only lose weight if you control your urge to binge soon after the exercise. It is essential to eat right and healthy before and after your workout. Never exercise on empty stomach.

         

We love to talk about weight loss. Yet, when it comes to action, we dread the very word called exercise. It seems like a huge effort to drag the body to the gym and to burn a few calories. It is essential to eat well before and after a workout. Now, eating well does not mean stuffing the stomach with fries, colas, pizza and burgers. It means, eating healthy and consuming a nutritious snack or meal. Some people will eat and rush to the gym or eat while they drive to the gym. This is a huge mistake. Some others think of a tasty unhealthy snack soon after they come out of the gym. Both these cases are wrong. Here is why-

Food Binge after Gym

Losing weight is not impossible but it is a tough task. This becomes tougher when there is no motivation and focus. Some people are sincere in their exercise but cannot control their food cravings. As a result, they tend to eat more calories than they do burn in the gym. Weight loss is possible only when there is a bigger gap between the calories consumed and burned. You cannot lose weight when you eat more and burn less calories.

Some people do workout for 45 minutes to more than an hour. Then, they think they deserve a treat and end up binging on food. This is like an ‘undo’ option. They undo what they burn in the gym. Taking a binge on food after a workout will not help one to lose weight.

Skipping Food before Workout

There is a myth that if you eat less or do not eat before a workout, you can burn more calories. This is a very wrong concept. Your body needs a lot of energy to workout at the gym. You will only strain your muscles and accumulate more fat if you skip your meals. You need to eat a high protein and a high carbohydrate diet before your exercise. In addition, you need to eat complex carbohydrates that take time to digest. This way, you remain charged up during the workout and afterwards too. It also reduces the urge to binge on unhealthy snacks after workout.

Unhealthy Snack after Exercise

Some people promise to eat a very unhealthy meal or snack right after workout. In fact, they come to the gym dreaming of a heavy dinner after a workout. It seems as though the food motivated them to exercise so that they can eat more. These people think that they have worked hard enough in the gym and can now inhale a large pizza on their own. Well, what is the use if you burn 600 calories in the gym and binge on a 1000-calorie pizza?

It is not wrong to crave and indulge in your favorite foods. However, to lose weight, you need to restrict such binges for once a week. If you keep an eye on your diet and exercise for an entire week, you can surely treat yourself on one day in a week. This will help you lose weight and keep fit.
