Excited about bringing home a pet dog? Read this article and prepare yourself well. You will own a dog but should also be able to take care of it with equal responsibility.

Do you love dogs or want to have pet dog this summer or for the kid’s birthday? You should know some things before you bring home a pet dog. Of course, you feel excitement at the thought of being a dog owner. Remember, it also brings along some responsibility. Having a pet dog is similar to having an additional member to your family. Moreover, this additional member does not speak. You need to learn to adapt and make the pet dog adjust to your home.

What size of Pet Dog is ideal?

Well, there is no standardized size and custom design! It is a pet dog, not a couch or furniture. Yet, if you have a large family under one roof, having a separate accommodation for the pet dog may be out of question. Look for a smaller dog if you have a bigger family. In addition, if you have a smaller family but a smaller apartment, a smaller pet may be good for you. If the entire family loves dogs, you may get a bigger dog. Each member may keep the dog’s bed in his/her room for few days in a week.

Dog’s Attitude

Yes, dogs have an attitude and temperament too. They may get angry, fall sick, feel depressed and so on. You should have enough patience to deal with its moods and behavior. Moreover, some people want a dog for safety reasons. Such breeds are rough and may not bond too well with kids initially. You may need to train the dog and let it interact with the kids so that they bond well. Some other breeds like Pomeranians get along well with kids.

Dogs seek Attention too

Like any family member, your pet dog with seek your attention too. Brace yourself as the dog may climb over you to wake you in the morning, pester you to take it out for walks and jumps on you after you get back from work. If you cannot devote enough time to pet your dog and give it attention, you may not be a good pet owner.

Train Pet Dogs

You can also find local pet dog training classes. These classes have trainers who devote personal attention to your pet canine and train it well. You can speak with the trainer and let them know how and what you want the pet to learn. Training is good for the dogs. They learn to be obedient towards their owner, learn potty training and other skills. This is good if you want to have a pet to keep you safe. Some trainers also teach the dogs to rescue a sick master or raise alarm in case of an emergency.

Expense for Dog Owners

You should prepare yourself to pay a few extra expenses when you own a dog. You need to take it for grooming, get medical insurance in case the dog falls sick, give timely vaccinations, and bring dog food, toys and sleeping arrangements for the dog.

Extra House Work with a Pet Dog

You cannot forget the pet dander. At times, your dog may dirty the carpet. You should keep a doormat and arrange for a water hose at the entrance of your house. Wash the dog’s feet and train it to rub its feet on the doormat before it enters the house. You may also have to vacuum the house regularly to keep the carpets and furniture free from pet hair, dander and other allergies. Regular pet grooming is important to keep your pet dog healthy and flea-free.

Apart from all this, you need to take your pet dog with you when you go out on weekends. You may also find a dog walker if you do not have much time to walk your dog on weekdays. Some people also offer to take care of the pet dogs when you are away on vacation. Consider all these aspects before you bring home your pet dog. After all, the animal also seeks your love and attention in return for its services.
