Pregnancy is a crucial time for women. Of course, it is a new path for the couple but for women, it changes their whole life. When you are pregnant, people offer several suggestions and food ideas. They say that sweets are also good during pregnancy! Well, as a would-be-mother, you cannot follow every advice. It is best to stick with the advice and suggestions of your doctor. You surely eat more calories, for the baby. However, remember that anything your diet affects your baby.

Cakes and chocolates may seem harmless. However, during pregnancy, you should be careful of foods that can cause gestational diabetes, fibroids and hypertension. As a mother to be, you should be careful of your diet and nutrition during pregnancy.

Junk Food during Pregnancy

Occasionally enjoy a slice of pizza or other types of junk food. However, daily indulgence in junk food during pregnancy is not good. Such foods hardly have any nutritional value. On the other hand, they have high amounts of sodium, saturated fats and bad carbohydrates. All these will only add to the body fat. During pregnancy, you need an additional 300 calories for the baby. This needs to come from nutritional and healthy food. If you eat too much of unhealthy foods, you only gain stubborn weight that is tough to lose during post pregnancy.

Healthy Diet for Pregnancy

Stick to a healthy and nutritious diet when you are pregnant. Add some regular exercise and you can remain fit during pregnancy too. Hence, you need not remain a couch potato only because you are pregnant. You can still take long walks, eat those peanut bars and lead an active life. Milk and Dairy for Pregnant Women

While the doctor tells you to avoid coffee, you can still have organic tea, milk and dairy products. Milk, eggs and dairy products like cheese have good amounts of calcium, potassium and vitamins. These are very good for the expectant mother and the baby. Milk and dairy products are good for the growth and development for the baby within you. If possible, buy organic milk and dairy because they are free from chemicals and pesticides.

Protein and Pregnancy

Pregnant women should eat at least 50 grams protein per day. If you are a vegetarian, you can find protein in greens, vegetables, eggs, milk, cheese and lentils. Black bean patties have high amount of fiber and protein too. When you eat high protein foods, you feel full for longer. It also helps in the growth and development of the baby’s organs and muscles. High protein and low fat diets are good because you do not put on weight but still get to eat healthy meals.

Whole Foods and Pregnancy

During pregnancy, you can exercise in moderation. You can walk and do prenatal yoga. However, you cannot perform intense cardiovascular exercises. Hence, you should also try to eat healthy foods to avoid gaining bad fat and cholesterol. For this reason, it is best to switch to whole foods and whole grains. Avoid processed foods, bleached wheat and polished grains. Quinoa, brown rice and whole wheat are good diet for pregnancy.

Beetroot for Pregnancy

Some women face the trouble of fibroids during pregnancy. Fibroids can happen during pregnancy due to genetic or heredity, age or other factors. Fibroids can cause cramps and severe abdominal pain during pregnancy. To avoid fibroids or to get relief from fibroids during pregnancy, eat plenty of beets. You can begin to consume beetroot even when you are trying for pregnancy. You can eat beetroot in curry, add in salads or even drink beetroot juice every day. It is a best way to get relief from fibroids during pregnancy.

Overall, a healthy diet is good for the expectant mother and the baby. You need not give up on ice creams and chocolates. However, limit their intake and eat in moderation. Stock up on salads, whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Remember to keep the body hydrated by drinking plenty of water through the day.
