Under My Mom God’s Wings

August 31, 2012  by: Paulose  Points: 9   Category: Inspirational Stories    Views: 949

Here I sing my first Haiku and send it to Triond. Triond’s encouraging embrace gives me the initiative to sing a Haiku on my God Mom.

Warm and cold
Under Mom God’s fold
Supreme Safety.

God is my affectionate Mom. I can call God as He or She. Philosophies and theologies describe Him as Father and Mother. Many literatures treat this Mom-Dad nature of God. Manickavasakar, a Saivite Tamil saint of South India, describes the Mom-Dad nature of God in many places, in his poetical work called Thiruvasakam. He addresses God as his Supreme Protector.I have always enjoyed this wonderful nature of God which Manickavasakar attributes to the Mom-Dad quality, by addressing God as Ammaiyappan (mother + father).

Bible looks at God as the Supreme Protector
In many places in the book of Bible, we can see the protecting nature of God and His Mom-Dad relationship. “For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence; he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day.” (Psalm 91: 3-5)

The affectionate words of my Mom-Dad God are always ringing in my ears. “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have graven you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.” (Isaiah 49:15-16)
