If you are a light sleeper, or wake up easily, you may have higher chances of sleep deprivation. Too much midnight snacks, late night work and television cause sleep deprivation. Here are some best tips that will help you sleep better through the night.

         

Sleep deprivation is a common problem today. We are so caught up with work, deadlines, extracurricular activities, personal relations and other issues. To top it all, we have less time for sleep and relaxation. Our lifestyle and habits also play an important role. If we have unhealthy habits, there is a high chance of sleep deprivation. Here are some tips to sleep well and relax.

Late Night Snacks and Sleep Deprivation

We all love to indulge in late night snacks. Be it a cup of ice cream, some chocolates, popcorn or doughnuts. This can be a major cause of sleep deprivation. Your body works hard to digest all the food at night. As a result, you remain active with all the energy you gather from eating high calorie foods at night. Moreover, late night snacks can cause acid reflux and indigestion. This can be a good reason to keep you awake. Hence, to sleep well, stop snacking at midnight. Eat your meal three or four hours prior to bedtime. This will give enough time for the food to digest and you will sleep better.

Exercise and Sleep Deprivation

Exercise is great! However, you need to exercise at the right time. It is good to work out early in the morning or in the afternoon. Evening workouts are also great but avoid exercises before bedtime. Your body becomes active, the metabolism level increases and you go far from the sleeping mode.

Work from Home at Night

At times you need to take back work to home and finish it. However, do not make it a regular habit. As you work until late at night, you crave for snacks or coffee. Your brain remains active and the light from the computer or the lamps keep you awake longer. Even when you go to be very late at night, your mind remains active and you continue to think and dream of work. As a result, you feel sleep-deprived and wake up feeling irate.

Avoid Television and Games before bedtime

Avoid too much gaming and television prior to bedtime. Gaming consoles and online games can make the brain active. Your brain works overtime even after you turn off the computer. Instead, try to meditate or read a book as you go to bed. Read a good humor book or a biography. You will sleep with happier thoughts.

Avoid arguments with family before sleep. It can shoot up your adrenaline and you will remain awake thinking of negative thoughts, instead of sleeping. Try to make your room soundproof and lightproof. Use darker blinds and noise canceling drapes. We tend to sleep better in dark and cooler temperatures.

I use to watch an youtube video before going to sleep. Most probably I watch comedy videos. For the last few days, I have started to watch Just For Laughs Gags videos. I laugh uncontrollably while watching these videos. After that I go to bed thinking of the video. I get sleep as soon as I close my eyes. This method works well for me.
