Sjogrens syndrome is an immunological disorder or disorder of immune system in which there occurs progressive destruction of exocrine glands of body which leads to mucosal and conjunctival dryness.


Sjogren’s syndrome is an immunological disorder or disorder of immune system in which there occurs progressive destruction of exocrine glands of body which leads to mucosal and conjunctival dryness. It usually affects females and occurs in third or fourth decade of life.


1. Keratoconjunctivitis sicca which is dryness of eyes is present there in Sjogren’s syndrome.

2. Xerostomia which is dryness of mouth is present there in this disease.

3. Mononuclear cell infiltration of salivary gland.

4. Parotid gland enlargement or there can be present enlargement of other major salivary glands.

5. Interstitial nephritis.

6. Glomerulonephritis.

7. Cutaneous vasculitis.

8. Polyneuropathies.

9. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.


1. ESR test.

2. TLC, DLC tests.

3. Platelet count test.

4. BT, CT tests.

5. Serological tests.

6. Immunological tests.
