Junk foods are high in saturated fats, sugars and sodium. As a result, it is hardly a surprise if you gain weight due to regular consumption of unhealthy or junk food. Many people pick up junk foods and drinks without realizing too. For instance, a take out menu from fast food joints for breakfast or a quick lunch. The sugar-loaded beverages at coffee shops are no less innocent. A small cup of coffee latte can contain nearly 300 calories. Well, add a buttery snack with it and you can easily gain 600 calories and more. Maybe it is ok to indulge once in a week but there are many people who drink three or four lattes a day. Hence, you see, the cause of obesity is related to our food and lifestyle choices. Eliminate a few lattes from your weekly menu and see the difference in your weight.

Shopping and Junk Food Addiction

Shopping and junk food go together too. You hit the grocery store after a long day at work. It is a no-brainer that the ready to eat foods grab your attention. You pick up the pre-packaged dinners or the processed foods from the store. Sure, it is easy and you do need a break after a long day at work. Yet, if you stop and think for a moment, you will realize the mistake.

Alternatively, make a shopping list and buy groceries on the weekend, when you do not go to work. It is possible that you will make sensible grocery list and buy fewer processed foods. You can cook in bulk for two or three days and reheat the home cooked meal for dinner. This way, you eat less junk food and keep fit. Another golden rule is not to shop when you are hungry. This is when you will buy more junk food than necessary.

Movies and Junk Food

This is one place where you cannot overcome the junk food addiction. However, you can still make healthy choices at the movie cafeteria too. Pick up popcorn without butter and a bottle of water instead of sodas and sugary beverages. You may also carry a small trail mix or a protein bar to chew as you watch the movie.

Add Protein Shake and Stop Junk food

Head to a vitamin store and pick up a protein powder. You can make your own fruit smoothies with protein powder. This will stop your hunger cravings for unhealthy junk foods. Drink a protein smoothie in the morning and evening. This will keep you full until lunch and dinnertime. As a result, you will eat fewer junk foods through the week. Of course, you will be happy to drop a few pounds and fit in your old clothes! Better yet, it can be a good opportunity to buy new pair of slim fit clothes too!
