Walking Through the Dark Tunnel

September 22, 2012  by: Paulose  Points: 17   Category: Others    Views: 480

Every human life is a walk through the dark tunnel. It is an exciting experience. There is a shining dot at the end of the tunnel. With hope that we get through love and faith we can reach the end of darkness.

Walking through a dark tunnel is an exciting experience. It is frightening to walk through a long tunnel. Life around seems to be silent and at a standstill. Even the beating of the heart sounds like pounding of a drum. There seems to be an almost invisible white dot at the end of the tunnel. That gives a hope that there will be bright sunshine beyond that end.

The dot at the end of the tunnel is not an illusion. It is an assurance of light. The shining glimpse of that tiny dot is the weapon of safety that we should hold till we reach that dot. The dot should strengthen us to choose between Love and Fear. Reaching that glistening dot is our liberation from the present darkness. Looking at that dot of hope, filled with curiosity and anticipation, we proceed our journey through the dark tunnel.

Walking through the tunnel of life with hope

Life is a journey through a dark tunnel. Every minute we walk through our life tunnel. Often we experience a sense of panic frightened by the darkness around us. We wonder and doubt if the tiny dot we see at the end of the tunnel is only an illusion. We are discouraged and disappointed by experiences of pain, loneliness, bitterness, and abandonment. Our inner sight also becomes dark, darkening our outer vision.

Walking in the dark tunnel is a choice between hope and fear

Throughout our life we face the two choices that keep us in a dilemma: to go back in fear or to go forward with hope. Walking through the tunnel is not a choice. We have to walk as we have entered the tunnel. But the way we walk is our choice. We can walk forward with hope or go back in fear. As Paul says love is the easiest way to build up hope and cast away fear through true love. Paul says, “So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”(1 Cor.13: 13)

Focus on the tiny dot of hope to proceed

The only hope to reach the end of the dark tunnel is to focus on the light. It is the only way because the light never fades and never leaves us. It is waiting for us there at the end, no matter how long we are in the tunnel.

No fear to walk through the dark valley

When there is love it builds up hope. Love of God builds up hope and faith. When we are sure God is with us why should we fear? We can rely on His guidance and providence and be strengthened. In Psalm 23: 4, King David sings, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.” Faith in God acts like a glowing torch, enlightening our inner vision and outer path.

St. Therese and Blessed Mother Teresa walked through this dark tunnel

St. Therese of Child Jesus, who is commemorated on 1st October, and Blessed Mother Teresa, commemorated on 5th September, walked through this dark tunnel. They have written in their autobiographies about this walking through the darkness. They are the shining stars in front of us, inspiring us with hope.

Paulose,

The dark tunnel is a time of suffering and loneliness when you feel, even God has abandoned you. But when you hold on to your faith and come out, you are a stronger person and you can help those who are still in the tunnel.
