Is Making a Child Eat Breakfast a Mountain-moving Task?

It may not be the experience of many. But I have felt the difficulty of feeding a child, especially feeding breakfast. It is like moving a mountain to many of the parents. We have to make the children eat properly in order to keep them healthy.


Eating breakfast is an hectic task for a child and for the feeding parent. I have seen many parents struggling with their children in feeding them meals. To my knowledge making them eat breakfast has been the most difficult one.

It is estimated that nearly 40 percent of children do not eat proper breakfast in the morning. Parents need not despair for this attitude. If you take some effort in the beginning and make it a regular routine, children will learn to eat properly. Here are some tips to give your child a quick and healthy start in eating.

Importance of eating breakfast

Children should not miss their breakfast. Studies say that children who eat breakfast are better learners and a healthy breakfast promotes their attention and keeps them focused in their studies. A healthy breakfast provides a good start to metabolism, reduces a number of health problems and limits the urge for going for snacks.

Easy tips to make your child eat breakfast

1) Be prepared with a breakfast menu. Prepare a list of items containing protein and carbohydrate foods. Protein keeps the child satisfied and carbohydrate gives the needed energy. Involve the child also in preparing the list, even while you shop things. Pair one of each and have them ready to give the child. This can avoid your last minute tension.

2) In addition to the simple-to-prepare items, you can have also a supply of healthy grab-go which children like much. This can make it easy in the hectic mornings.

3) Breakfast foods, suggested by the child, can be prepared on the previous night itself. Convince them to avoid junk food items.

4) If the child does not feel like eating in the morning, make him drink a glass of milk or an instant drink with some fruit.

5) Early waking up and doing engaging children in some morning activities which they like may help their stomachs prepared for eating something. Encourage them with some game like points and make them eat in a good mood. Losing temper on both sides will not help them eat.

6) Highly sugared foods will spoil their health and eating habits. Lightly sweetened cereals or cent percent whole grains can be encouraged. More fresh fruits will provide sweetness and nutrition.

7) Some children may not like lactose drinks. Lactose -intolerant children may be substituted with soy milk or cow milk.

Eating healthy breakfast is very important for maintaining healthy weight and overall health maintenance. Make children enjoy a good breakfast and begin a healthy day.
